From Our Research Team:A New Standard in Reference Monitors!Yamaha's new HS80M powered monitors were designed to be true studio reference monitors in the tradition of the famous NS10Ms. When choosing your next pair of near field reference monitors, remember it's not just important that they sound good - they have to be an honest reference for your mix. The new HS80M reference monitors were designed to give you exceptionally flat response so you can really trust what you hear. That means that mixes that sound good on Yamaha HS80M speakers will sound good on anything. In fact, that's the ultimate test of a reference monitor. Even better than that, HS80M speakers not only sound good, they look great, too.Yamaha HS80M Powered Studio Monitors at a Glance:
Affordable high-quality reference monitoring for all types of studios The HS Series is a two-way, internally powered speaker system designed to provide affordable, high quality reference monitoring for all types of recording and multimedia applications - home studios, computer-based music production, gaming systems, keyboards rigs and personal computer systems. All products are sold and packaged individually, making it easy to build flexible monitor setups and 5.1 systems. Clean, tight low frequencies and smooth highs The 120-watt HS80M (8-in. cone and 1-in. dome tweeter) is housed in a bass reflex-type cabinet and reproduces surprisingly tight low end and smooth, high frequency response to beyond 20kHz. Inputs include a balanced XLR and 1/4-in. phone jack. In addition to master level controls, each speaker has trim switches that allow you to custom-tailor low, mid and high frequency response for different applications. Quality enclosures with distinctive "white cone" appearance HS Series cabinets look as great as they sound. Enclosures are constructed of high-quality MDF material and a multiple layer finish that minimizes resonance. Design elements include a black finish and lighted Yamaha tuning fork logo. White polypropylene woofer cones recall the look of the classic Yamaha NS10M, and include low-damping rubber surrounds and full magnetic shielding. Yamaha HS80M Powered Studio Monitors Features:

I can't speak for more experienced pro engineers since I'm a noob. But after researching it, I opted for these HS80M's over the KRK's and everything else. I just needed something that gave me an accur... read more [+]ate reference. I was sick of being unpleasantly surprised whenever I played my beats anywhere other than my KRK headphones. Basically, I don't have a treated room. I have a little 200 dollar audio interface (Komplete Audio 6). My desk is too small, so the speakers are not placed far enough apart. I have more work to do. HOWEVER: When I mix and master on these puppies, and I get my songs to sound good on them, I can be sure that they will sound even better anywhere else. Most producers do not have decent monitors in their studios. Their speakers color the sound, or they're not actual monitors, they're just speakers, etc. Getting a solid pair of speakers like these Yamahas will give you an edge in your mix, so you can be sure your mixes sound better than the next beatmakers, which makes all the difference IN THE WORLD when it comes to sales. You always need a quality sound, and that is only possible to achieve with flat high quality monitors. A great beat or song that isn't polished will not sell as fast/well as just a decent beat/song that IS. January 27, 2012 Music Background: experienced emcee, noobie producer/hobbyist So if you don't have solid flat speakers, get some. But realize: you will see these white cone Yamahas everywhere from project studios to major studios going back DECADES. These are as much a part of the classic polished pro sound as an SSL compressor, because you HAVE to hear what you're doing. close [-] Best Monitors I've Owned

As an electronic music producer, I was looking for something where I could do my own mixing with little outside help. I initially got the HS50M's. Figured I should just step up to the 8".December 25, 2011 Music Background: Producer, Pro Musician What a difference it makes! The 80's are too amazing. Not only to my mixes sound many times better, but they sound great for all the other things I'm doing on my computer. Despite the "NS10 sound" that people seem to dislike, I use these not only for studio work, but for entertainment as well. I was gonna buy the matching sub when I bought these, but I figured I'd wait. Turns out, the low end is not muffled, muddy, or otherwise. The mids and highs are just plain better than the HS50M's (which were good on those, btw). Everything is so crisp and clean with a stereo image that is so obvious, it's difficult to mess up a mix. I used to think I would only get this kind of sound out of other, far more expensive monitors. At least every studio should have a set of these. close [-] Clarity, beautiful imaging, outstanding!

I have tried other products in the similar range, including Mackie, Event, M-Audio, JBL,,,,,,even Hs50. It is brutally honest in terms of revealing a bad mix. But when you have a well mixed piece of music coming through these set, it is simply gorgeous. Clarity and the Imaging is just outstanding. I have another set of JBL Large speaker set with a sub in a living room. I have to say I often find myself a bit frustrated by the performance by the set only to find my self returning to Hs....... I was using the original passive RoKit 6.5's for a few years in my home studio. The HS80M is a chameleon, showing each mix for what it is and I like that. I just spent my first full day mixing and editing with them and I'm very happy with the work done. The HS80M's aren't aggressive sounding, but with consistent listening I heard adjustments that I needed to make in the tracks. Imaging is good, too. I felt more relaxed using these; I kept them medium-low volume and just leaned back and let them show me what was happening with the track. I'm very pleased with these monitors. In my studio both speakers have to be close to a wall, and I have one speaker by a corner, so I set the HS80M room adjustment switches to -4 for the corner speaker and the other speaker to -2. Simple, very adjustable and great sounding. close [-]
