Gibson Acoustic Advanced Jumbo (Vintage Sunburst) ReviewsSweetwater Advice
David Hess
The last one of these that hit Sweetwater lasted about two days. I bought it basically on the spot. The tone is amazing. There are overtones happening all over the place. The sustain is scary and bar chording sounds almost as rich and full as open chording on this instrument. The high E and B strings ring out with the same attack and fullness as the wound strings. Quite possibly the best tonally balanced acoustic guitar I've ever played. It’s certainly the loudest. And I've played a few.
Customer Reviewsfrom San Diego, CA, USA December 9, 2007 Music Background: Hobbyist A constant source of inspirationI bought this amazing instrument after several weeks of discussion and generous feedback from Sweetwater Expert David Hess. Even though I have auditioned a few of these beauties in the past, at the moment of buying on-line I relied firmly on his expertice: he selected the right guitar for me.The sound of the Gibson Advanced Jumbo is incredible; it has a bright ringing tone, with a lot of sustain and powerful bass; it responds beautifully to fingerstyle, strumming and flatpicking. I can play it very loud, or take full advantage of its warm sound when playing some blues or songs in the singer/songwriter style. This guitar has revealed to me as a great source of inspiration, and I am sure that it will open and sound even better in the months to come. Thanks again, David!from KY December 9, 2007 Music Background: Songwriter, Home Studio Owner Tone you can feelI had been searching for 2+ years for an new acoustic. I tried just about every model in the $1K-3K range but couldn't find anything comparable to my '84 Sigma. There was that one Borgeoius but it was $5K. Anyway, I had pretty much quit and was going to save up for a hand built when I happened on this Gibson AJ(built in July '06). As soon as I picked it up I loved it. It had a huge tone I could feel throughout my body while I played without the extra boomy bass of most loud guitars. In the din, there was still a good balance of jangle from the treble strings. Talk about resonance! And this was with light strings (12's).There were a few cosmetic flaws, the rosewood back and sides didn't book match well,a few sanding glitches on the neck @ the 16th fret, and what's up with the plastic bridge pins? One thing to note, I played another AJ that didn't sound nearly as good so make sure you play a few before you buy. Also, since it is sooo loud, you have to experiment with mic position for to truely capture this awesome sounding guitar.
