Effective Hum Removal

Ground loops and unbalanced signals create noise in recording mixers, keyboards, guitars, power amps, live sound, and DJ systems. No one is immune to hum, no matter how good your rig is, so when hum occurs, you need the right tool to quickly and easily get rid of it. The Morley Hum Eliminator does away with system noise and ground loops quickly and easily. Custom transformers isolate circuits, keeping grounds intact while breaking troublesome loops and balancing unbalanced gear. And since the Hum Eliminator is totally passive, it injects absolutely no noise into the signal. The 1/4" TRS and XLR in and out jacks make it easy to connect. At Sweetwater, we appreciate devices like the Hum Eliminator. It’s a must-have accessory for any serious studio or stage rig.

Note: The Morley Hum Eliminator isn’t intended for use with mic- and instrument-level signals or powered speaker lines.

Morley Hum Eliminator Features:

  • Removes unwanted ground-loop hum, buzz, and noise
  • Breaks ground loops safely while leaving all signal grounds intact
  • Completely passive design requires no external power source
  • Converts automatically between balanced and unbalanced lines
  • Employs custom in-house transformers to isolate circuits
  • Automatically translates signal voltages to match difference in ground potential

How to spot problems

This product works very well, so it may reveal other problems: bad cables, worn inputs, internal ground problems and the like. If you still have hum, you're doing it wrong or something else is wrong. I'm eliminating hum between two amps and stereo keyboards in my attic, on one circuit that also runs an overhead fan. It works on crusty tube amps as well as chinese transistors, even run together in stereo. Your live sound will clean up everywhere you use it. Fluorescent lights? Neon? Floor fans? Anything in the room that can screw with your sound can be knocked down and the effect on wireless… don't waste another noisy nite, but be prepared to be shocked by what is making the hum.

Big result in a little box

This little box does the trick to eliminate that annoying 60 cycle hum.........Same great result as when the box was Ebtech before Morley bought them. I imagine only the brand was changed. Think i will pick up some extras and keep them for a rainy day !!!

Not for instruments or microphones

Honestly, I can't fully review the effectiveness of this product because I was expecting to be able to reduce the hum that I get when the guitar is connected to the amp. Somehow I had missed the line in the description that said "The Morley Hum Eliminator isn't intended for use with mic- and instrument-level signals or powered speaker lines."

So I ended up with the same issue as another reviewer who clearly didn't see that warning -- my hum just about doubled in volume with the Hum Eliminator connected. Well, I can't review it based on that, because it says right in the description that it won't work for that. I didn't have another problem area, I tried connecting it between the amp head and cab just to see what it does at high volumes, but it kind of muffled the sound. I guess that's not a supported use case either (is that what they mean by "powered speaker lines"?). Ultimately, I couldn't think of a supported use for this thing that would be useful to me.

It was a waste of money for me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work how it's supposed to. If you need it for a supported purpose, I'm sure it's great. Just don't make my mistake and expect it to do something it can't.
