ADAT HD24

Recently had a chance to try out the HD24. After receiving the unit for use in a remote truck that had ADAT xt20's, we found it was not really plug and play in an ADAT environment. There are no elco connectors which meant either cutting off the existing connectors and wiring 48 1/4 inch plugs or using the a-d converters in the xt 20's and going into the machine's lightpipes. We elected to use the lightpipes. We also could not synchronize to smpte from the video truck. The video truck had just received the unit and was unaware of this. The manual does spell this out and states that it can chase smpte using the BRC. It also states several other things the BRC can't control on the HD 24. Since we were on location (without the BRC manual) we called Alesis for help setting the BRC up to feed smpte to the HD 24. Had to leave a message. Got no response. Job over. Loaded out and still don't know if the machine will lock to external smpte timecode. Other than that, it seemed simple to operate. I was disappointed that there were no elco connectors to install the machine in my existing "ADAT environment" and no way to obtain factory help when I needed it.

This is the best, most straightforward multitracker that i have owned. I use this with a mackie 32-8 and go in and out of computer for some editing. I love this machine and am considering another for live multitracking....
