I love the smell of Adirondack and Rosewood in the morning...

I waited anxiously for the FedEx truck to arrive with my new HD-16R from Sweetwater Sound, Inc. My final decision boiled down between the D-28 and the HD-16R but the 1 3/4" nut width persuaded me toward the HD-16R. I was also looking for "something special" and I found that with the herringbone inlay and diamond fingerboard position inlays. I ended up buying from Sweetwater rather than "going local" because of the conditions in which Sweetwater stores their instruments ~ and given the fact that I didn't want someone else's grubby hands on my guitar! With some quick fine tuning my new guitar played exactly like it should and it killed me to put it back in its case so that I could get back to work. Even though I wish this particular model had the dove-tail neck joint, my salesman at Sweetwater convinced me that the mortise and tenon joinery would hold up just as well over time. If you can swing the extra $200 over the D-16, you will be very happy with the Rosewood back and sides on the HD-16R. This is an absolutely beautiful guitar and, overall, a great value compared to the numerous other models and manufacturers I looked at during my search. Martin is truly America's Guitar! close [-]

workhorse meets thoroughbred; nice horsie!

Like a lot of fellow musicians, I have been through a lot of quality instruments through the years. This guitar would rank on the short list of my all-time favorites and I only wish that I had found it a lot sooner.

I like the modified V neck and the choice of woods on this guitar is outstanding. Play this instrument softly and it sings! Play it hard and it stands out beyond expectation.

Anyone who believes that they can get a better deal than what Sweetwater will do is using 'fuzzy math'.

This guitar is awesome. If you believe that only dovetail necks can yield incredible tones, then you snooze (and will miss out).

Note: For you younger musicians; never confuse mid-life crisis purchases with good taste when pondering the cost of something. If this guitar said Bumble Tree Tuna on the headstock it would still be awesome. close [-]
