A Rare Hummingbird!

The Sweetwater-exclusive Gibson Hummingbird Movingui LTD is a collectible, handcrafted Gibson acoustic-electric guitar — limited to just 5 in the world. A spin on the world-famous Hummingbird, the Hummingbird Movingui LTD features a unique tonewood combination, for a voice all its own. It pairs a classic spruce top with a distinctive movingui body. The wood, in fact, was selected from esteemed luthier Ren Ferguson's private collection of exceptional wood. To bring its amazing voice to life onstage, Gibson gave the Hummingbird Movingui LTD a premier LR Baggs electronics system.

A couple of months back, a few members of the Sweetwater team got the chance to look through Ren Ferguson's private collection of tonewoods. Ren Ferguson is widely known as Gibson's premier builder, and he's been regularly putting aside the woods he deems to be the best of all the woods that pass through Gibson. Working alongside Gibson, we envisioned crafting a guitar to make the most out of these stunning tonewoods — resulting in the fantastic Gibson Hummingbird Movingui LTD. Only five of these guitars have been made, each with a flawless spruce top and a distinctive movingui body. In tone and in appearance, these instruments bring the famous Hummingbird to a new dimension.

The Gibson Hummingbird brought a subtle new body style and a bold new look to Gibson's dreadnought family. The Hummingbird was Gibson's first 16" wide "dreadnought"-style guitar with the extra wide upper bout, known as the "square shouldered" body shape. To emphasize the importance of the new model, Gibson outfitted the original Hummingbird with such eye-catching features as a cherry sunburst finish — the first on a Gibson flat-top — double parallelogram fingerboard inlays, multi-layered binding, and a modernized pickguard engraved with hummingbird and blossoms. As discriminating guitarists immediately discovered, underneath the Hummingbird's flashy ornamentation is incredible-sounding, incredible-playing instrument.
