From Our Research Team:A 2-track Studio That Fits in Your Pocket!Imagine being able to carry a complete field-recording rig in the front pocket of your jeans. That's exactly what you get from the revolutionary new Zoom H1 handy recorder, for a price you can't pass up. It's a little smaller than an average television remote yet powerful enough for every audio application, from taking voice memos to recording demos. Powered by only a single AA battery, the H1 lets you record for up to 10 solid hours. Thanks to an extra-large storage capacity (up to 32GB on a single microSD card), recording for 10 hours straight isn't even a stretch. The H1 even comes with a 2GB microSD memory card, so you're ready to start recording right out of the box.A pair of pro-quality XY stereo condenser microphones onboard the Zoom H1 means you don't even need to plug in your own microphone, but there's an 1/8" input on the side in case you want to. Whether you need up to 24-bit/96kHz PCM WAV format for professional post production or memory-saving MP3 format (48kbps-320kbps) for the Web, you'll get it from the H1. The H1's even perfect for video recording, mounting easily to video and DSLR camera shoes. The Zoom H1 features impressively high SPL handling, recording options, and recording controls. An Auto Level switch on the back takes the guesswork out of getting great sound, and a similar Lo Cut switch reduces handling and wind noise impressively. Uploading files to your computer from the H1 is also quick and easy, thanks to the H1's built-in USB 2.0 port. When it comes to actually using the H1, you'll quickly discover why Zoom considers it their easiest-to-use recorder to date. All of the H1's essential controls are conveniently laid out at the tips of your fingers. Adjusting the input level and dropping markers as you record are only the press of a button away. You can even lock the H1's controls, so you can keep it in your pocket, with nothing to worry about. There's even a reference speaker at the foot of the H1, allowing you to review your recordings, even if you don't have a pair of headphones with you. No matter where, when, or what you need to record, you'll always be ready if you have a Zoom H1 on hand. Zoom H1 Portable Handheld Recorder Features at a Glance:
Not only is the Zoom H1 one of the most affordable handheld records out there, but it's also one of the handiest!

I use the H1 to record song ideas and guitar riffs so I don't forget them. I just put the H1 on the desk about 7 or 8 feet from the amp and press record. This unit is easy to use, will stand on a flat surface, mount on a tripod and sounds great. It's a small price to pay for recording that cool riff that you WILL forget the next day. close [-]

January 3, 2011 Music Background: Performer, recordist and home studio hobbyist The voice recording was done with a universal shock mount and table top mic stand. The noise floor is very low and the auto level worked great in this setting. 5 stars here, beautiful recording. I used the shock mount on a on a mic stand for the acoustic guitar with vocals recording and although not as good as what I do in my home studio with 3 mics (the cheapest one more than double the price of the H1) it was a very good recording more than adequate for recording practice sessions or song writing. For the outdoor concert I was 40 -50 ft. from the stage and I just held the H1 in my hand. I experimented with auto level and low cut and it worked best with both set to off and level at around 75. A very loud squeal made the auto level drop too low and it took too long to recover. Once I got things set the recording was great. The XY Mic configuration seems to improve the stereo imagery and sound was very clear and clean. Being aware of the case transferring the sounds of hand movements (very loud if your skin rubs against the plastic) I made an effort to hold the recorder VERY STILL and it worked fine. The recording was great until the wind picked up and started to gust a little. I did not have a windscreen and this part of the recording is bad due to the mics picking up the wind noise. I am getting a windscreen for future outdoor recordings. Not counting the windy part a great recording 4 stars here. In my opinion for high quality amateur recordings the Zoom H1 is probably as good as it gets for the price. close [-] Also popular
