The really funky old-school factor caught my attention. Greta overdrives progressively, and goes from a little raunch (think of 1950's little tube amps for beginners) to creamy (Gender Champ, gain up), to saturation (think "Shine" by Collective Soul). I wish that they had figured out a handle, though. Buy this amp. Use it as a pre-amp for the Excelsior by Fender. Use it to not upset your family. This is a great little tube combo for low volume use as well as recording. It's a big plus for me to have an amp that looks like an old radio thus no complaints from the mrs if I leave it in the kitch... read more [+]en! I read an earlier review that mentioned the need for a "break in period" I couldnt agree more, this is true of all amps to some degree, but more so in this case, that small speaker is built to tight tolerances and mellows very nicely after several hours. I compare this favorably to a couple small amps I've owned for a while, My old Pignose and a Blackheart Killer ant that I hot rodded with a Bitmo kit. I'll be looking for a similar mod kit for this as it sounds very much like the killer ant did before the mod. Lastly as with most amps you gotta take some time to get used to Greta, she'll grow on ya! close [-]
