Phasing, the Way it was Meant to Be

The EarthQuaker Devices Grand Orbiter 4-stage phaser pedal serves up a full palette of phasing grooviness that's perfect for guitar — or anything else you'd like to enhance with this classic '70s effect. Grand Orbiter's OTA-based circuit is augmented with a 3-way switch that lets you select between modulation ranges: Rate 1 is slow sweep mode; Rate 2 kills the LFO, letting you use Grand Orbiter as a fixed resonant filter; Rate 3 is fast sweep mode. This third-generation pedal has been updated with flexi-switch relay-based silent switching for improved performance. At Sweetwater, we've played through quite a few phaser pedals, and the EarthQuaker Devices Grand Orbiter V3 stands out.

Comprehensive control over your phasing effects

Grand Orbiter's circuitry is based around the operational transconductance amplifier, an ultra-stable device considered in electronic engineering circles to be an ideal transistor. EarthQuaker built the circuit with a smart set of controls that gives you the ability to craft and fine-tune the exact effect you're after. The Rate control adjusts the speed of the LFO (the flashing LED gives you a visual indicator, even with the effect bypassed). The Depth control blends the wet signal in with the dry, effectively controlling the intensity of the effect. Grand Orbiter's Sweep control sets the peak frequency of the phased signal: full clockwise, the sweep is vibrant and intense; turning the dial counterclockwise gives you a darker, more laid-back sound. The Resonance knob serves up a broad regeneration palette; at higher settings, it delivers a more resonant tone. The Phase/Vibrato switch even lets you use Grand Orbiter as a true-pitch vibrato. In Vibrato mode, the dry signal is killed, and the Depth control functions as a volume control.

From the pedal gurus at EarthQuaker Devices

Akron, Ohio's EarthQuaker Devices is a boutique pedal company that puts all their focus on building tools for musicians to find their own tone. Their designs range from enhanced classics to pedals that have never been seen or heard before. Company founder Jamie Stillman was working with rock band the Black Keys when he came upon a design for the pedal that kickstarted the company's success. Ever since then, EarthQuaker Devices has been committed to helping you find your tone with high-quality products at great prices.

EQ Devices Grand Orbiter V3 Phaser

It's awesome, does the effect sweetly. EarthQuaker makes awesome effects, made in USA. I buy nothing but EQ now.I also have the Plumes, perfect OD with many tonal options. In the pic I've since added the Astral Destiny to my pedal board, pretty awesome, I got it so it sounds like we have a keyboard in the band...which we don't lol

Amazing

This phaser is nothing short of amazing. I also own the EVH Phaser, I love gear, and the real difference is the EVH phaser is much more subtle while the Grand Orbiter is appropriately named, it's sweep has quite the reach. I prefer slower phaser sounds and the dramatic nature that I have been able to conjure up with this Grand Orbiter is amazing. So in a nutshell, I love the Grand Orbiter for riffs and the EVH for solos, because the Grand Orbiter is more dramatic so a slow subtle phaser like the EVH doesn't always translate live at loud volumes, especially if you are playing another guitarist, but the slow dramatic Grand Orbiter does. I also love being able to step on and hold it on for things like pick slides, dive bombs or squeals.

Fantastic for both phaser lovers and for phaser haters

I've tried phasers in the past. I always like it on other bands' recordings, but I never could find it to sit well for my own music. The Grand Orbiter is awesome at adding super-subtle movement into your playing, without it being obvious that you have a phaser pedal engaged. It also stays tasteful as you dial it in more prominently. I knew instantly this one would be a keeper. Pretty psyched I finally find a phaser pedal I can get along with. It definitely covers all that traditional phaser territory, but it can also get wacky OR stay subtle and tasteful and just add dimension to your guitar while staying out of the way.

Incredible Pedal

I have owned an EVH phaser in the past and I regret selling it, but I wanted to get something a little different. This is such an amazing phaser! It has a ton of really useful sounds in it, the position 1 is definitely in the vintage/subtle world. Position 2 is pretty cool because you lock in a certain frequency of the sweep, almost like a wah but a little different. Position 3 is a little more modern sounding.
It doesn't get as wild as other phasers out there, but if you're looking for a workhorse "swirly" effect, this is the one!
One of the coolest features is just how slow the speed can be in position 1. It makes for a really satisfying layer to your sound without being too obvious. Super pedal!
