For more information, call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer at 1-800-222-4700.Paul Reed Smith is an acknowledged master of guitar making. Waves is a renowned leader in the world of DAW plug-ins and hardware processors. Now the two have collaborated on a software/hardware product that gives session guitarists, engineers, and producers a new way to achieve killer tones without needing a roomful of amplifiers, cabinets, and stomp boxes. The new Waves GTR (that's Guitar Tool Rack) offers an impedance-matching interface - an essential factor in capturing great signal - plus an extensive amp/cabinet modeling plug-in, followed up by a set of virtual stomp box effects, all in a single package! Waves GTR Guitar Tool Rack at a Glance:
Premium guitar tone personally supervised by Paul Reed Smith Designed in association with Paul Reed Smith Guitars, the new Waves GTR (Guitar Tool Rack) system's aim is to give engineers, producers, and session guitarists a new choice when it's time to record guitars. To perfect the sound and features of the Waves GTR system, Waves engineers worked with Paul Reed Smith, founder of PRS Guitars, and the PRS team for nearly two years. Smith shipped his hand-picked boutique and vintage amps to Waves headquarters in Tel Aviv and personally selected the tones during the sampling process. Waves Amp plug-in with seven modeled amps and multiple cabinets Waves GTR features Waves Amp, a plug-in developed using entirely new, proprietary methods to sample amplifiers, cabinets and microphone positions. Amp sounds are categorized by drive level - Direct, Clean, Edgy, Drive, Crunch, Hot and Modern - to provide a faster, more effective way to get the exact tone you want. Bass, Middle, Treble and Presence knobs provide interactive tone-shaping controls specifically tuned for each amp model. The Drive control is normalized, so Drive can be adjusted for tone without readjusting output gain. Several cabinets are also available, and two can be played at once. The pan controls allow for blending and/or panning in stereo, while phase switches for each cabinet provide more tonal options. Six emulated microphones are offered, and each can be placed on- or off-axis, even on one cabinet if you wish. Waves Stomp plug-in with 23 classic and modern effects The Waves Stomp software included in Waves GTR serves up 23 guitar effects controlled a virtual PedalBoard which allows stomps to be chosen and connected in any desired order with drag and drop ease. Stomps are mono, mono-to-stereo and stereo as appropriate and come in four flavors:
Most stomps can be synced to the host BPM. All Stomps have extensive MIDI control options, including continuous real time operation using a MIDI controller (for wah wah effects, for example). Ideal signal path to your DAW with unique Waves/PRS Guitar Interface Waves GTR solves a problem that every engineer has had to face. An electric guitar produces a high impedance signal with an extremely wide range of frequencies and dynamics, while recording systems rarely offer guitar-compatible inputs. This mismatch isn't addressed by most amp modeling software, and the result can be an irretrievable tone loss before the signal can even be processed. The Waves/PRS Guitar Interface retains full dynamics and fidelity while transforming the signal to a low impedance, balanced signal that connects directly to the analog-to-digital converter. An extremely transparent preamp circuit allows levels to be matched to differing pickups, from humbuckers to single coils. Outputs on the Guitar Interface are at microphone or line levels, and balanced or unbalanced on XLR and 1/4" TS jack respectively. A 3-LED indicator shows signal present, nominal level when lit occasionally (showing that the best balance between level and S/N ratio is being delivered) and over. With Waves GTR you can conjure up amazing guitar tones!

ReviewsWaves GTR vs. GuitarRig 2 vs. Amplitube 2 vs. Logic Guitar Amp Pro.
by Nathanael Davenport from Rexburg, ID
This review is a quick blow by blow of four of the major amp simulators out there. I spent about a couple of hours doing A/B comparisons of these different products. My first impressions are that:August 20, 2006 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Rock House Recording. ... read more [+]/> 1. GTR (Waves) and Amplitube (IK Multimedia) have the clearest, sweetest sound. 2. GuitarRig has the most versatility, and variety of presets, but the raw sound of it is kind of cheap sounding compared to GTR and Amplitube. 3. Amplitube and GuitarRig 2 have the best interfaces because they are integrated, and in terms of size, Amplitube wins, but in terms of interface usability, GuitarRig 2 wins hands down on all of them. Its window is huge though. 4. Amplitube has the most inspiring and most accurate presets, especially for signature styles. GTR has individual presets for each component of it's package, but not having an integrated plugin is a serious drawback in terms of being able to find the sound you want FAST. So Amplitube and GuitarRig win with their presets. 5. If you run Logic, you can better your guitar sound with any of these packages. Guitar Amp Pro sounds cheap compared to the rest of these, and Logic's built-in E-Guitar presets (channel strip settings) are equally bland. In my opinion, Waves GTR is overpriced for the only slightly sweeter sound it has than the next sweetest (Amplitube) simulator, and is a pain to use compared to the more elegant interfaces of GuitarRig and Amplitube. However, if you don’t mind taking your time to find your sound, GTR may well be your best bet. GuitarRig 2 may be your best bet if you want tons of presets and lots of effects. With a little work with good audio mastering plug-ins, you could make it all sound better. Plus you can get it all (with stomp/pedal controller) for $500, make it an exceptional value. But the raw sound quality is just a little bland compared to Amplitube and GTR. All in all I would recommend Amplitube 2. It has plenty of presets, a more compact if not as elegant user interface than GuitarRig, and bottom line, I think it sounds the best. Every preset sounds great. Though it doesn’t come with a stomp setup, multi-trackers won’t mind this, and with a little clever MIDI programming you can have it change presets like a stomp box. However, look for the next upgrade to GuitarRig 2. If Native Instruments can simply brush up their amp and speaker modeling algorithms, they will dominate the market in the next revision. I would go with GuitarRig if only it sounded better. close [-] WOW !!!

... My Goodness!!! WOW!!! January 15, 2006 Music Background: When Comparing "Waves GTR" with any other Guitar FX emulation whether Software or hardware is simply like comparing a monkey to a human :) !!! the monkey m... read more [+]ight even do a few more tricks but simply doesn't have what the human has. Guitar rig 2 i.e may have some cool features and customized FX algorythms, but the Sound quality, the Clarity & the realism of Wave's GTR is simply beyond words! I have no idea how Waves does it again & again. Every time I think that they have reached the maxmum peak of geniousness, they proved me wrong!!! Here in L.A the composers & producers are devided into 2 groups: Those who work with waves and those who do not! - This is where the top producers & top musitians are separated from all the rest. This is where you see the one millyon dollar composer next to the 99cents comoser whom no one will ever remember. Basicaly, if hollywood wants to hire a composer they don't even need to see the resume. As soon as they discover that the composer/Producer is working with waves, they don't even doubt for a second that they just hired the best they can get in this world. Now..., I know what I'm saying because I'm in the center core, red hot center of the Music and Film industry. Don't forget also that Waves was the first in the World to create plug-ins. By the way, I'm not saying that other guitar plug-ins are not good. all I'm saying is that in comparison to the other plug-ins (whether the guitar fx, and all other plugs that are weight against Wave's Diamnd bundle,(EQ,Compressors, Delay's, Mastering tools, etc...))!!! Waves plug-ins turn a muddy recording into pure & refined gold. I can almost say that one would'nt need to even know complex fx editing, because Waves is so easy to use even for begginers. All you need isn't a "sound designer diploma" but musician ears. If you have a good ear, you realy wouldnt have to do any thing- Just watch the plug-in do it on its own! Wow!!! It's simply breath taking! DID ANY OF YOU WORKED SO HARD IN GETTING A SONG OR SCORE TO SOUND GOOD, BUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO- IT NEVER SOUNDS LIKE THE CD'S IN THE STORE!?!? WELL, I'LL GIVE YOU PEOPLE ONE GUESS WHAT HAS MADE THAT HUGE DIFFERENCE? WHAT MAKES THE BIG ALBUMS OR MOVIES SOUND SO GOOD & BALANCED? -WAVES!!!!! WAVES, BABY....WAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this was helpfull in getting the best tools for your studios. p.s The only critic I have is: Why does GTR not support the awsome new DSP technology that waves developed. All the heavy, CPU thirsty plugs in the Waves Diamond bundle support external DSP power so that the plug-ins won't use precious CPU power. I guess that in the coming weeks GTR will support the external DSP so that we could put as many GTR Stomps as we want without even touching the cpu. compare that to the cpu thirsty GuitarRig... It's so cool to load 20 fx simultaneously without using any cpu at all! Congratulation - WAVES!!! - - - YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!! WOW!!!! close [-]
