ReviewsGreat Sounding PA
by Jimmy from Los Angeles, CA
These are probably the flattest sounding PA speakers at this price I have ever used, and loud, especially for the modest power output. I do not want to overtly question the other review, but the comp... read more [+]ression driver is very bright, so I do not understand how they sound as if there's a blanket over them. The EQ's are very subtle, and frankly, I would rather have it that way and do most of my EQ from the source with the speaker reinforcing what I am trying to do from my mixer.March 18, 2011 Music Background: Professional Recording Engineer with Hobby Band These speakers aren't perfect, the protection circuitry kicks in a little too early, but I arribute that to the power output, and for 500 bucks, I can't get too picky when they don't get as loud as something that costs twice as much. But unless you're in a huge room, it doesn't really matter. As an experiment to try and cut down on the amount of gear my little said band has to take to gigs, we played a small show only using the GSR's, an Eleven Rack instead of an amp rack, keys, a couple of mics for vocals and put them through a small Mackie mixer leaving the EQ's flat. I was blown away at how good that setup sounded. I don't think we could have gotten anywhere close to that kind of sound if we were playing speakers 'tuned' to sound good as many are in this price range. close [-] Good Price, Great Sound

Great self-powered PA for the price! I've owned a pair of these along with a GSR-18 for a couple months now, and I've DJ'd with them and used them as mains for a few band gigs. They don't disappoint! ... read more [+]Like another review said, the protection does seem to kick in a little early, but, then again, that's better than too late. I tried experimenting with the different EQ settings, which I think would be handy for certain applications. I prefer to leave them on 'Normal' and tune the room myself, though. October 7, 2011 Music Background: Musician, DJ, Production Student, Hobbyist Volume is great for small-medium venues, but I'd like to get a second pair of these to use at least four (2L,2R) for FOH in bigger medium-large rooms. Overall, I think they're great speakers, and I'd be excited to see M-Audio make some more higher-powered models! close [-] Sweetwater Advice
Brian CravensAt home, I have a set of M-Audio GSR-12 speakers set in the Hi-Fi mode and hooked up to a big-screen TV. When 5.1 just won't work in your application, don't be afraid to think "outside the box." They sound incredible!
Scott AugustyniakThe new M-Audio GSR series PA speakers have really impressed me! They don't sound too flat or too colored. I think these are a great bang for the buck. These are perfect for mobile DJs or live bands. Disappointed…

I own a lot of M-Audio products and have never been disappointed until now. These speakers sound very murky, like there's a thick blanket over them. The mid-range is very pronounced and the highs and ... read more [+]lows are practically non-existent. The built-in EQ presets don't do much either, causing only a barely noticeable difference. The only thing this speaker has going for it is it's light weight and good looks. close [-]
