It has all the orchestral instruments you need as well as church organ and harpsichord. You can even create your own custom ensembles. I also love the fact that it is expandable with future add-on instruments. If you are a student, an educator, or a professional composer that wants a quick and easy way to hear your compositions the Garritan Personal Orchestra is hard to beat. GPO is NOT a stand alone product. For the money, it's very good, and there are aspects of this libary that I continue to use even after investing in East-West's Symphonic Gold library (HIGHLY recommen... read more [+]ded). Like all libraries, it can't be everything to everyone, something has to suffer. I don't agree with the comment regarding the poor string sound - you have to play this library like the real instruments or it doesn't work. Garritan has set up a really neat user interface using the mod wheel for volume control so you can swell and diminish like a real player would, and that goes a LONG way to making this a viable starter Orchestral library. Is it perfect? No, but again for the $$$, you'd be hard pressed to come close. East-West's Symphonic Gold (and the XP add-on) is head and shoulders above this but it's also 5 times the price of GPO. I'm a loyal MOTU consumer, and I wasn't impressed with the MOTU Symphonic instrument (although I WILL be picking up the MOTU Ethno instrument soon!). I'd also recommend looking at Peter Siedlaczek`s Complete Orchestra bundle which has some cool features as well. I make my living doing this, and the bottom line for me is that each of these products helps me to produce a good product. GPO is a great place to start (it's where I started a couple of years ago). close [-]

July 1, 2005 Music Background: I have been recording live strings, woodwinds, and brass in the studio for years and now I can rival that same sound at home. In fact, I had the studio where I work purchase GPO to not only suppliment the live players, but, in a recent case, score entire songs when live players where not available.
