Customer Reviewsfrom Huntington Beach, CA July 19, 2011 Music Background: Worship leader, hobbyist, A very special guitarThis is one of Taylor's best efforts. I love the short scale, the clear and round trebles, the great balance between bass and treble, the very light weight, the very classic appearance, and the fine workmanship. I presently own a Martin OMC Aura and a Martin OM 1. All of these guitars are outstanding and to chose between them would be difficult. The Taylor is getting better and better as I play it, and when it reaches a couple of years of playing it may mellow out some. We'll see. I seldom have a need for built in electronics as most of my playing out is for small group singing at church, but the ES system is avaiiable for this model. I have owned a Taylor 914ce, an 814ce, two 414ce's, a 214, and numerous other brands and the GC8 is my favorite at this time. It sounds great either flat picked or finger style and has enough volume to be heard in a mix. I have played for 20 years and I can recommend this guitar without reservation.from Canton OH August 12, 2007 Music Background: Intermediate Hobbyist Player with Great Sensitivity to Discerning Great Guitars Awesome Guitar Awesome ServiceYes, I was literally blown away by the projection, tone, and presence of this guitar. It has a great bass response, and is probably one of the best Taylors I have played (and I have played a lot). The service of Sweetwater is unsurpassed. I was initially sceptical that Sweetwater could be so different than other dealers, but it's true. They stand by you to ensure your satisfaction unlike other dealers I have dealt with. So, this is an incredibly awesome guitar accompanied by incredible service. I highly recommend the guitar, and higly recommend purchasing from Sweetwater. You will not be disappointed either way.from Des Moines area January 14, 2009 Music Background: Pro Musician, Guitar teacher, Hobbyist Taylor GC8I believe that different types and sizes of acoustic guitars do best when used for the type of playing it is most suited for. Playing mostly fingerstyle, I have in the past been attracted to dreadnaughts, simply because at first they hit you with a big, deep sound. But after playing this Grand Concert size guitar for a while, I quickly began to appreciate what it does better than the big guitars. For fingerstyle, there is a better balance between bass and treble. The individual notes separate and stand out on their own. It records this type of playing better, less boominess. I have tried many GC size guitars in the past and many have very little sound. This is what set the GC8 apart from other guitars of the same size. For a small guitar, it has a monster sound. Plenty of bass and overall volume. The small body and shorter scale makes it very comfortable to play. The slotted peg head is very classy. I have the action very low (1.5mm (6th) to 1mm (1st)measured at the twelfth) yet there is virtually no buzzing. The deluxe hardshell case is a marvel in itself. Very heavy and rigid. Lots of padding and tight fit. Even the latches are a notch above the usual. Only two critisms. On the seam down the center of the back, the finish is raised and rough in a few places. I do want to emphasize that this is very subtle and I may be the only one that has noticed this. The other is that there is not enough latitude in the adjustment of the truss rod to completely eliminate all relief. I know, most people would want some and it is conventional wisdom, however, there are many professional players that have there fingerboards completely flat. My point is that option should be there. With that said, for fingerstyle this is the best guitar I have owned for that purpose over the last forty years and about twenty guitars. It is a wonderful instrument |
