  Decent
by Brandon from Cincinnati, February 2008
Music Background:  Producer, Musician.

I've got to this this little guy props, although mine just died at 3 years of everyday heavy use. I don't think this was designed for the amount of abuse I put it through. So for that, I give it credit where credit is due. The old drivers for this really sucked, but M-Audio has put a lot of time into developing much more stable drivers. If you are just a hobbyist, or home musician, I can recommend either this box, or the Yamaha. If you want mobility and a pro level sounding box, you should look elsewhere. Peace.

  Nice learning tool...
by Jay from FLA, April 2007
Music Background:  Recording for years...

I started using the solo about 2 years ago with my first condenser mic (nt1-a), and it served me well for learning and what not. I must say the built in pre really lacks any color, and I would highly recommend getting some sort of half decent pre to strengthen your signal chain. The converters are ok and there isn't much latency... Overall it's a good starter piece like I said, not exactly a keeper if you want any type of real quality though.

I guess I kinda got this on impulse.
It was hell configuring it for me because I'm using it on a laptop and all.
Seems weird cause when i started up native instrument's guitar rig, I could only hear one side of my monitors.
Took quite a while to get used to the interface, once I did everything was cool.

Great for a solo artist but I really wished there was a midi port.

Feels worth the money though.

  Great Firewire Interface
by Alex from Burlington, VT, October 2006
Music Background:  Hobbyist/Student

A solid firewire interface with rock solid drivers. Using with an MXL 990 condenser mic and sounds great for a budget setup. I would this interface to anyone who needs a good interface and mobility with the ease of Firewire. The only downside is the one XLR mic input.

SOLID
by Aaron from London, September 2005

Solid as a rock. Drivers - stable. Design gracefully simple. Cool blue light. A fine expample of Hi-q audio in/out minimalist interfacing near perfection considering the cost, you are lucky, lucky to own it.

NOT BAD FOR THE $$$
by Anonymous from Florence KY, April 2005

I just purchased the Firewire Solo to use with my iMac G5 in Garageband. At first I was unimpressed with the piece. I experienced a lot of cracking and popping and after an hour of checking cables, jacks, and batteries, I came to realize that my buffer settings were set too low. After a quick adjustment in my system preferences, and a couple of adjustments in the Firewire Solo Mixer, I was up and running. The unit is quiet and I don't really notice any latency even at the higher buffer settings. Overall I would say this is great little unit for not a lot of cash. I definitely recommend it.

AAACCKKK!!
by Feem Gloodnoot from Nepal, February 2005

No MIDI?!?! Incomprehensible! How tough would it have been to make this unit fully functional for the solo recordist by simply adding a MIDI interface? Sheesh...this would have been just the interface I need, but without MIDI...aaarrgghh!! A manufacturer with more sense will get my bux.

Yo Nepal
by KS from Dirty Jerzey, February 2005

Nepal, I think you should've been smarter to read the specifications first. It says 'Firewire Solo'. I own this and there ain't nothing wrong wit it.
