From Our Research Team:

A FireWire Interface with Transport Controls!

Pushing the limits of what an audio interface can be, the TASCAM FireOne FireWire audio interface features shortcut keys and a weighted, illuminated jog wheel to inspire creative interaction with the artist's music. The FireOne is the first stereo audio interface in its class that records two mic ins and two outs over FireWire at 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution.

TASCAM FireOne FireWire Audio Interface/Controller at a Glance:
  • Weighted, backlit jog wheel makes navigating your song easy
  • Two mic preamps plus MIDI I/O
  • Includes Live Lite software

Weighted, backlit jog wheel makes navigating your song easy
The most unique feature of the FireOne is its large, weighted, backlit jog wheel, which allows musicians to zip through their song while the backlight provides useful feedback such as a visual metronome. In addition to its jog wheel, the FireOne has transport keys and nine shortcut keys to control functions in most popular DAW applications.

Two mic preamps plus MIDI I/O
The FireOne features a pair of mic inputs with phantom power and pad switches. A front panel guitar input allows convenient direct recording of guitar or bass. MIDI input and output are also provided for 16 channels of MIDI. The FireOne records and plays at up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution.

Includes Live Lite software
The FireOne includes a copy of Live Lite 6 TASCAM Edition, the music creation, production and performance software from Ableton. Live's drag and drop interface makes it easy to seamlessly move from basic song ideas, to studio production, to the stage.

FireOne supports the following applications as a control surface:
  • Ableton Live 6.04 and higher
  • Cubase 3.02 and higher
  • Nuendo 3.02 and higher
  • SONAR 5 and higher
  • Logic Pro
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Digital Performer 5 and higher

Great product!

by Johnny from Birmingham, Alabama

Music Background: Home recording
I just bought the FireOne ($99.00) to begin the world of computer based recording at home. I have a Tascam hard disk recorder - DP01 FX/CD, but I was never happy with porting WAV files to my PC with U... read more [+]SB. It just took too much time. The FireOne is a great solution for me. It takes up much less room, it has 2 headphone jacks and now I can record in 24 bit mode. I did have issues with the Live Lite TASCAM edition software. I can only record 4 audio tracks and 4 midi tracks total. This was very disappointing and the upgrade was too costly. I chose to purchase Steinberg's Sequel 2 (absolutley great piece of software) for $99.00 and now have unlimited tracks and it works great with the FireOne. I am new to PC recording and have never experienced latency. My DP01 has no latency. This really bugged me until I figured out how to avoid it. With the FireOne, it is simple, just turn the volume down on the track (PC mixer track in Sequel 2) you are recording and turn the MIX knob (FireOne) to 12:00. The MIX knob blends the input sound from the FireOne with the output sound from the PC, but with the recording track turned down you never hear the latency! The sound is also great. I am not a professional, but I can tell you the recordings so far sound great. The sound does not blow away other recordings I have done with the DP01. They are just as good as the DP01 and I was very happy with the sound of the DP01. I have played with the buffers to deal with latency during recording and pops and clicks during playback. It is very easy to understand. Less buffers = less latency and more buffers = less pops and clicks during playback. I have found a happy median with my buffer sizing and have had no problems since. This was a very quick thing to correct. I have made use of the controller features of the FireOne also. Play, Record, Forward and Reverse have been assigned with ease in the Sequel 2 software. Sequel 2 has a learning feature for this. In all, I am very happy with the FireOne/Sequel 2 combo. close [-]
