Record Audio into Finale
Finale 2009 offers the ability to record audio into the program. This is great for adding vocal passages to classical pieces, adding horns to a jazz chart, or even import a rock tune to add horns using the built-in compositional and playback tools. This is the first time that a notation software has merged with the audio recording world, and it opens up a ton of options for really adding the human element to your projects. You will enjoy adding personal touches to classics, such as a putting your vocals to Broadway scores, jazz standards, and much more.

Streamlined workflow
The creation, entry, moving, and editing of dynamics, tempo indications, and other text and markings has been reinvented and streamlined. As a result, selection, entry, and placement of expressions is quick and intuitive. Once in your score, they are easily moved. You can instantly change the appearance of, for example, all your dynamics or rehearsal markings. You'll accomplish more - in less time - without sacrificing any of Finale's awesome power and control. It's also easy to move your markings around your score once they're entered.

Garritan sounds
Finale now includes more than 300 world-class instrument sounds from the makers of Garritan Personal Orchestra. Free new sounds include baritone saxophone, vintage electric piano, electric guitar, handbells, and more. The Garritan Aria Player is included FREE and is fully integrated into Finale 2009. The level of custom integration is unsurpassed and offers superior sound, more control, and a vastly improved user playback experience.

Expanded SmartMusic support
Finale 2009 makes it easier and faster to create assessable SmartMusic accompaniments with support for linked parts, repeats, and more. Now, with linked part support, they create just one file for the entire ensemble, assign the piece to the whole group with SmartMusic Impact, and their students simply select their individual parts. This represents a tremendous savings in time and effort. Plus, the creation process has been greatly simplified. Now you can save any new or existing Finale file as a SmartMusic solo, ensemble, or assessable accompaniment - you don't need to know you're creating an accompaniment before you start. SmartMusic now accepts repeats and a great variety of notated items that were previously blocked in the Finale export process. This means you spend less time fine-tuning and more time making music.

Finale makes it easy to create SmartMusic Markers - one trip to Finale's Edit menu gives you an interface that looks and feels just like SmartMusic, and makes it a breeze to add Intelligent Accompaniment like "wait for note" or any other kind of SmartMusic Markers!

Tapspace Virtual Drumline sounds
Finale also includes more than 100 instrument sounds from Tapspace Virtual Drumline, the world's most powerful marching and concert percussion software instrument featuring the world-champion Santa Clara Vanguard percussion section. In addition to lite versions of the drum line instruments, a variety of pitched percussion is included, as well as combination instruments for General MIDI and Finale's marching percussion mapping.

Multiple page editing
Now you can simultaneously view and edit as many pages as you choose to view on your monitor. While Finale has always been able to display multiple pages on your computer screen, edits could only be made on one page at a time. Now you can simultaneously view and edit as many pages as you choose to view on your monitor. Copy and paste measures from one page to the next, or drag slurs from the end of one page to the beginning of another, and much more. Choose from multiple viewing options including single pages, facing pages, and tiled pages. Click to the next page, next pair of pages, or choose to scroll continuously - horizontally or vertically. You can even choose to view your entire piece on screen at once with a tiled view. No other music notation software offers this flexibility. Best of all, you can edit any page in any view at any time.
