I've used Final Cut Express since vs.1, got it because I wanted more than iMovie offered--better titling capability, more video tracks, full screen playback on a 2nd display, better color correction--... read more [+]and while it doesn't have some applications in Final Cut Studio, like Cinema Tools, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro(why buy what you don't need--iDVD is perfect for my projects!), it use the same interface and has most of the tools for editing video that are in Final Cut Pro. November 7, 2010 Music Background: Live Sound, Theatre, Video Production FCE is a very capable step-up if you've outgrown iMovie(me), don't like the new iMovie interface(me) and/or are working with DV video(me). It no longer includes Soundtrack but, I bought that when I got FCE1. I've got vs.1.5 that came in previous versions of FCE--still usable, if upgrading to FCE4. With FCE4, you can score a movie, add sound fx and/or tweak its audio track in GarageBand, which is pretty good too and it comes free with a new Mac as part of iLife. And, I've found LiveType to be a win for its motion backgrounds and creating animated titles. If you edit video with Final Cut Express(and use GB+iDVD--me), you're editing with most of Final Cut Pro(and some of Final Cut Studio)--for a lot less than the price of Final Cut Studio. close [-] HMM OKAY

They get you with the lack of features. Its pretty cool but not final cut pro. Save your money and get the real deal. Also make sure you have an intel mac do get screwed like me.
