good product works great as an audio interface and the standalone mixer/ monitor mode is great took me a long time to get going with the control surface in cubase sx had to setup under cubase protocol in the control panel and then create as a mackie control in cubase pan knobs would be nice seperate bus for the headphones would be good price makes up for that stuff i guess

Great for small home studios. The faders feel nice although there arent any knobs for pan (you have to assign a track to one knob) Other than that, this product is well worth its price.

Tascam 1082 woes

I installed according to instructions and with windows xp pro svc pack2 , it still isn't working.
the menu doesn't come up as it should, audio driver wont connect to interface, already had Cubase se, been building and using computer for audio recording for 10 years

FW-1082 is THE best recording deal, for under $800!

I already owned a USB Windows recording interface, and used Cubase as my primary software, but was looking for a control surface. When I read a review of the Tascam FW-1082, I couldn't believe that for under $800, it not only provided motorized faders, but it utilized firewire, (much faster, and more reliable than USB,)and included Cubase LE! In fact, this WHOLE SYSTEM is cheaper than ANY comparable control surface alone! The interface seems flawless, and having a control surface has helped me finish my recording projects in half the time! The other plus for me was that this whole system works with Windows 2000 also. That saves me from upgrading to Windows XP a little bit longer, and when I do upgrade, this system is totally compatible. If you are looking to purchase an entry level audio recording system, save your money for a week or two more, and invest in this Tascam FW-1082.
