If you are looking for blowing your brains out low end, forget it. If you are looking for all the harmonics and nuances done nicely, these will please you. Very clearly would be killer for iPod use. Also good for in ear monitor use as I can hear the harmonics and upper end which define my bass guitar tone and much to the joy of the others on stage ensure good intonation for fretless playing. It helps their internals have connections to Future Sonics Incorporated which has been in the in ear monitor business since dirt and has major artist cred.

I've these monitors with both a portable player as well as a RF transmitter for feeding music from my stereo system in the garage. I grind and hammer metal metal as part of my car restoration hobby, and as a professional sound engineer, I really need to protest my hearing - but I like to have tunes while I work. These are the perfect answer!
Only downside is they take a little getting used to feel.

I have had a pair of these for almost a year and I am very happy with the quality of the sound and the noise reduction. I use them on plains and trains and it cuts out all outside noise.

The only bad thing I can say about these headphones is that the cable is a little too long - but that's easily fixed by buying one Etymotic's cable wrappers.
