From Our Research Team:

Epi's Les Paul Standard with a Plus

Even if you've been playing guitar since the world was young, you'll find that the Epiphone Les Paul Standard will stand up (pun?) against that Gibson LP that you foolishly sold twenty years ago and have been dying to replace. With the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus, you'll be amazed how much guitar you can buy for so little money - and the "Plus" after the name Standard, means that along with a Paul that Plays like a much more expensive Gibson (great for gigging without fear) it adds a visually stunning flame maple top. Everything else on the Epi Les Paul Standard (e.g. humbuckers, controls, and Grover tuners) is exactly what you would expect on a Les Paul Standard. After all, you stay with what works, and this beautiful Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus definitely works!

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Features:
  • Color: Vintage Sunburst
  • Body Wood: Mahogany
  • Top Wood: Flame Maple
  • Neck Wood: Mahogany
  • Neck Profile: Set, 1-11/16" nut
  • Fingerboard: Rosewood
  • Position Markers: Trapezoid

Have to say the Sales Engineer was great, he kept me informed and when they recieved the Les Paul from Gibson (Yes they ordered straight from Gibson)and after they went over it with a fine tooth comb ... read more [+]they overnighted it via Fedex (24hrs). Hey even BMWs have glitches and sweetwater fixed mine in a hurry. Have to up my rating a whole notch here. close [-]

Great guitar for the money, But.......

by Dave from Martinsburg, Pa USA
May 14, 2007
Music Background: long, long time player of guitar
Ordered this guitar on April 20,2007 and three days later it arrived via Fedex. Waited a day to open it up so the guitar could acclimate to the enviroment. Took me 5 minutes to tune it up, then star... read more [+]ted to whail away. The guitar sounded great, The Plus top really makes a difference in appearance, it sounds as good as a Gibson Les Paul. As I was wipping the guitar down before it was put back into the case I noticed a blemish on the 8th fret under the D string, tried to rub it out with the guitar cloth but it wouldn't come out. Called Sweetwater and it took them until May 11, 2007 to have Fedex come and get the guitar so they could swap it out with Epi LP standard plus. This is the only reason I gave it a 4 is because of the length of time it took sweetwater to act. close [-]

Dreaming of a Les Paul?

by Marcus from Baltimore
June 5, 2009
Music Background: Life Long Hack
I've owned a bunch of (12) LP's over the years (like the sell copy says "you stay with what works") and that included 2 Epi standards, both made at Gibson quing dao. The Epi isnt a terrible guitar, bu... read more [+]t it seems to me Gibson could do better. Ill start with whats good. They look quite a bit like a real deal Lester. They are about as heavy as a Fender U.S. strat, 6 - 7lbs. I dont like the Pick ups, I really think gibby could come up with something that sounds (to me) a bit less shrill. The selling point of the less paul after all is its signature, woody, baritone voice. The finishes are a disapointment. Its not the work so much as the material. The 2 part polyester stuff is on way too thick and the colors are bit too nuclear. Also for the money they are asking, why are we getting (paper backed) veneers on the tops? And I still havent gotten a straight answer from Gibson as to what "Alder/ Mahogany" means. Some folks out here dont have the dollars to buy into the Gibson "lifestyle", but for they price they are asking,we can do better. Dont settle for a Les that is "less than".Sweetwater is great company to deal with and they carry just about everything so keep an open mind. close [-]
