The A Designs EM-Silver mic preamp module is part of the company's line of unique modules, each with their own "color" - both sonic and visual. The EM-Silver's custom-wound steel output transformer gives you a slightly "darker" sound than the other preamps in the line, adding a distinctive tonal flavor that's useful in any mix. You get quality features such as a 20dB pad, phase switch, 48V phantom power, aluminum gain knob, and thumb screws for easy install and un-install in the EM-Silver mic pre module. Part of a colorful line The A Designs "EM Series" is a twist on their popular Pacifica-based P-1 module. Each color (Silver, Blue, Red, and Gold) has its own sound, which is accomplished by using different custom wound output and input transformers. This gives you a large palette of preamp "coloration" to add to the sound of your favorite microphones or instruments. A good partner for ribbon mics The EM-Silver has a custom wound steel output transformer which will translate into a darker sound than the P-1, EM-Red, and EM-Blue. The EM-Silver is a good match for ribbon microphones, partly due to the fact that steel transformers were widely used in the early days of recording and broadcast along with ribbon microphones. DI input Another feature of the EM-Silver is a "DI" (direct inject) for use with electric instruments, making it a great pre for bass guitar and keyboards.
