A 9-band digital stereo graphic equalizer gives you recallable presets and works in concert with an effective Feedback Suppressor system to give you a handle on your mixes. These features (plus a ton more) help make the Yamaha EMX5016CF a live winner!Yamaha EMX5016CF Powered Mixer at a Glance:
16 versatile inputs Yamaha's EMX5016CF has a total of 16 input channels - eight for mono microphone or line input, plus four stereo pairs. The stereo channel pairs can function either as monaural mic inputs or stereo line ins. This system gives you extra microphone inputs if your sources are mostly microphones, or if you need to handle more stereo sources, the EMX5016CF will comfortably handle four pairs in addition to eight mono mic or line inputs. 3-band EQ, single-knob compression Yamaha put 3-band EQ on all the EMX5016CF's input channels, but extra versatility is provided on the eight mono channels with mid-frequency sweep controls. The mid EQ center frequency can be continuously swept from 250 Hz through 5 kHz so you can precisely pinpoint frequencies in the critical midrange. The EMX5016CF also features compressors on all monaural microphone/line channels that can help to make vocals ride the mix better, give you that smooth compressed guitar sound, deliver more punchy bass. Just set the COMP control to the amount of compression you need. Digital graphic EQ with presets, plus frequency response correction An advanced digital 9-band stereo graphic equalizer goes beyond conventional analog types with a refined control interface, instant-recall presets, and user memory locations. It also works with the console's innovative Frequency Response Correction system for great response-shaping control. You can manually adjust each band, or use one of the presets as a starting point and edit from there. You also get three user memories to store your own EQ curves for instant recall whenever needed. The EMX5016CF's Frequency Response Correction System automatically adapts its output EQ to a given room, using either pink noise or a recorded music source you supply. The EQ setting can then be stored in one of the user memories for later recall if needed. Onboard feedback suppressor and maximizer The Feedback Suppressor works by detecting feedback frequencies on the stereo bus and applying precise notch filters to eliminate the feedback. The Feedback Suppressor has an automatic mode that automatically keeps track of and attenuates feedback frequencies for you, and a sensitive manual mode that lets you pinpoint and attenuate feedback points one by one. The EMX5016CF Maximizer is an advanced 3-band compressor that can be applied to the stereo bus for a more punchy "up-front" overall sound. Simply press the MAXIMIZE switch to instantly give the mix more presence and impact without sacrificing musical subtlety. Built-in Yamaha SPX effects The EMX5016CF includes two top-performance Yamaha SPX digital effect processors built in! You might only need ambience effects such as reverb and delay for live sound applications, but if you need other effects as well they're right at your fingertips, and you can use two different effects simultaneously. Each processor offers a selection of 16 top-quality effects including reverb, echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, and even distortion, with editable parameters that allow you to customize each effect. Our church has a limited budget and a limited amount of technical experience; this mixer solved both. The digital EQ and digital feedback suppression is perfect for us sound engineer wanna-be's. Yama... read more [+]ha should tout its one button YSP button more than it does; this single button adds "thump" to our small driver speakers. The manual not only gives the technical info, but gives a crash course in sound mixing. We are extremely satisfied with our purchase. The additional features will allow us to expand in the future; thanks Kurt Martin and thanks Yamaha. close [-]
November 27, 2010 Music Background: Sound Board Operations Disappointing

I recently updated our Yamaha EMX5000 to this model. Very disappointing upgrade. Where to start? First off, you can't bypass the compressor. Even when the knob is 'off' you are still running thro... read more [+]ugh the compression circuitry. Probably not an issue with single mics and instruments, but if running a submix on any of those channels its very noticeable. Fix is to run the submix through channels 9-12. But wait, there are no L/Mono inputs. Only dedicated L and R channel inputs for the 1/4" inputs!!! Can't be Howie? No, its sad but true. Also gone are the pads for those channels, but thankfully they countered this penny-pinching improvement by padding the line level inputs by 26dB's.February 28, 2012 Music Background: Pro Musician, Live Sound engineer, critic. Another nice nifty new feature is the digital equalizer. Works very well - if you turn it on. The lights light, the 'sliders' move so you assume it's opertational. No, you have to turn it on first. But, thank gawd, you can save your eq settings. What a useful feature? Also gone are inputs jacks that go directly to the power amps. Now there is no way to run true bi-amp. I used to take the signal out through a crossover and then patch back into the left and right amplifiers for bi-amplification. Lastly, the placement of the speaker jacks in the back are so high that you cannot rack mount this into a slant top rack case and get to the jacks. I had to use angled 1/4" speaker plugs. Forget about using the neutrik connectors in this situation. No problems with the sound quality though - top notch Yamaha. But come on - compression? What pro who cares and utilizes compression would even think of using a powered mixer? close [-] Also popular
