From Our Research Team:

A Dreadnought with Rosewood Warmth

Epiphone revives the prestige of its 1930s guitars with the new Masterbilt Acoustic Series. These new flat-top guitars feature solid wood construction and a distinctive 1930s-style “offset notch” peghead shape with historic Epiphone script logo and mother-of-pearl “stickpin” inlay.

The Epiphone DR-500R is the ultimate marriage of tone woods. A solid Sitka spruce top and premium-grade rosewood back and sides produce the classic dreadnought sound. The DR-500R makes a player feel just like it sounds - rich and powerful. With classic dreadnought dimensions, the DR-500R blankets a room with deep, rich and rounded tones.

The beautiful grain of the DR-500R's woods is enhanced with a natural satin or vintage-style shaded finish. The dreadnought and fingerstyle models have full-body abalone binding, tapered dovetail neck joints glued with hot hide glue.

Fantastic Acoustic Guitar of very high quality

I won this guitar at a local music store and it inspired me to start playing again after years of not doing it. So far it's been great - the tone is superb, with bright highs and deep lows. The constr... read more [+]uction and finish are exceptional - the Grover “butterbean” tuners stay in tune and the neck is a great fit for my hands. The solid rosewood back and sides and the sitka spruce top make it sound really nice and warm and several friends who are local musicians have commented on how good it sounds. There were no flaws anywhere on it, and I practically went over it with a fine-toothed comb. I've been really impressed and it's certainly a guitar I'd buy again.

Great product, and I was never really much of an Epiphone enthusiast before either, but I love this thing, and it's helping me to relearn everything I thought I'd forgotten! I love this guitar and highly recommend it. close [-]

My Move-Up guitar

by Scott from Tacoma, WA

When I began to learn guitar at 41, I did not want to go all out and buy an expensive guitar and then not keep up the hobby. So I initially bought an Olympia OD-5 which was reasonable, but I did keep ... read more [+]playing guitar and outgrew it. When I went to upgrade, I played a Taylor, Breedlove and this DR-500R. I fell in love with the DR-500R right away, especially the light action. I have been trying to work through the moveable fingerings in Fretboard Logic, and I just could not do it with the Olympia even with light strings. With this Epiphone I am able to play all kinds of chords that I could not play before. I also really enjoy the sound of this guitar. My friend who is an accomplished guitar player confirmed that this was a major step up. I expect to keep this guitar for many years. Oh, yes it comes with a very nice Hard/Soft case with a built in hydrometer. close [-]

This guitar is amazing right out of the box. The action is great, the neck is fast and easy to finger. The tone is unreal. I compared it to a Gibson J-45 and liked this better. The bass tones are movi... read more [+]ng, and the highs sparkle. This is truly a great guitar at any level. The only changes I made were strings, and a Fishman Matrix Natural II pickup. close [-]
