I owned an original Genesis in 1979 and it was a great guitar, so I was excited to have the opportunity to buy a reissue. First I'll say this is a beautiful guitar and Epiphone has gone the whole 9 yards to ensure quality of manufacturing. The most visually noticeable change from the original is the addition of a AAA maple top, where the original was just solid mahogany; this adds a dramatic appeal. The neck is a little flatter on the back instead of being so rounded. This gives it a more modern feel that isn't so clubby. The nut width is nice and wide giving you more space between strings which is always a welcome feature, intonation is fantastic and no matter how high you go up the fretboard the notes ring out solid and true. One of the appealing features of the body design of course is total access to all the frets. Speaking of frets, Epiphone made sure there was more attention to dressing the frets, so the edges are nice and smooth, there's great attention to detail there. The pickups on this reissue are covered instead of open and this smooths out the tone a bit. The original pickups sounded a lot like Gibsons modern Dirty Fingers pickups, which are great, but can be a little too hot for some people. Adding the covers, using the ProBucker was an excellent decision in my opinion. Last but certainly not least was the move to eliminate the coil-tap switches and opt for push-pull pots instead for tapping the coils. The single coil tones are very nice. Don't expect the guitar to all of sudden turn into a Strat but you'll definitely appreciate the optional tone. So, you've got a beautiful reissue, modernized in all the right places, with a wonderful singing tone to it and coil-tapping. It's a great deal. This is still a heavy guitar; not as heavy as the original, but still quite substantial weighing in at over 8 lbs. If you buy one I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. close [-] Also popular
