From Our Research Team:

Metal Begins Here!

The Gibson SG has been one of the guitar rock 'n rollers' mainstays since the beginning of the electric guitar. The Gibson SG is known for its sustain and great tone. Just listen to Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath or Pete Townshend of the Who and the ledgendary Gibson SG Double Neck as played by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin!

In the late 50's Gibson introduced the SG Series of solid body guitars. They had a rather thin twin horn body. This two horned body is what gives the SG more access to the higher frets on the fretboard (Could this be why people call guitars their AXE?) It had a somewhat sinister look to it so much so that Angus Young (of AC/DC) had Gibson make one with a lightning bolt.

The Epiphone G-400 Deluxe (SG) is a faithful reproduction of the legendary the Gibson SG, with a solid mahogany body, slim taper mahogany neck, and separate volume and tone controls for each of the high-output humbuckers. The Epiphone G-400 possesses all the bite, tone and comfort, at a fraction of the cost!

The Epiphone Tony Iommi G-400 is equipped with Tony's signature Gibson Humbuckers, capturing the classic tones that came to define heavy metal as we know it. Other prominent features include the classic SG tonewood Mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, and cross position markers. Black chrome hardware rounds out this axe. After strumming one chord, you'll see why the birth of metal sprang forth from this classic axe!

6 yrs ago...i bought the original Gibson Tony Iommi SG...it had all the bells and whistles...and for 4000.00 it should....i was so happy with it..but financial things happened and I had to sell it awa... read more [+]y....as years went by i found myself in a better position to buy another one....but the company stopped making them.... I knew of this Epiphone version..but i automatically blew it off thinking to myself..."the sound is gonna suck...it will be tinny and not compare to my original Iommi Gibson"

Finally realizing that it was either this version or nothing...i took the shot of buying the epiphone Iommi...expecting it to disappoint...but as soon as it arrived and i plugged it in...From the first notes of me playing "Neon Knights"...my heart skipped a beat and I was floored....the sound..the power the fury and growl and tone of Tony Iommi lives in this guitar...
take my word for it..if you are a sabbath and Iommi fanatic like I am...this guitar will make you beyond happy...its got everything my 4000.00 Gibson Iommi had...just minus a few of sterling silver crosses and the Gibson name...but this guitar has Tony all over it...i cant say enough of it...i have to stop typing now..so i can go pick it back up....

attention Sabbath fans....buy this guitar!!!!!!!!!! close [-]

Shocked speechless . . .

After some deliberation I had decided that I would find a pair of Dirty Fingers pups and pop into my 76 Gibson SG. The local music store had sold out, so no luck there. So emo kid strutted in with his... read more [+] girlfriend and started checking out a few guitars in the store, including a fairly new Epi Tony Iommi Signature. Didn't listen because after playing for 25 years, touring and recording, there was no way I was going to even touch an Epiphone. Salesguy Tom mentioned that the Iommi signature pups were worth a listen as they were also on the Gibson model. Fine. Plugged in. Sat down. Turned up the gain and strummed a chord. HOLY FOKK!!! This didn't sound like some crap Chinese Epi (although I hear the Prophecy is pretty sick). In fact, it sounded AWESOME. Lots of power. Amazing tone. I couldn't wait to run it through my Hughes and Kettner rig. Which I did 30 minutes later when I arrived home. THe combination produced a brutal modern metal sound that I'm lovin' every day. I play very brutal industrial metal and this is now one of my main axes and a perfect compliment to my other guitars. Korean made, Grover tuners, 24 frets. I swapped out the electronics and the bridge. Except for the body wood, it's practically a Gibson -- without the ridiculous price tag. close [-]
