Takamine - 50 years of quality, great sound, and playability
The Takamine EG450SMCSB acoustic-electric guitar benefits from a half-century of Takamine guitar-crafting knowhow. Launched in 1962 at the foot of Japan's Takamine mountains, Takamine has been designing and building acoustic guitars that are seen in the hands of some of music's biggest stars. With quality and value as guiding principles, Takamine's instruments employ the finest tonewoods, construction techniques, and technical innovations such as the proprietary TP4T preamp system found in this guitar.

Takamine's TP4T preamp system
The EG450SMCSB sports Takamine's TP4T preamp, giving you rich, clear-sounding amplified output - instantly. A feature of G-Series guitars, the TP4T features a gain knob, a tuner, an active shelving EQ with bass, middle, and treble sliders, and a low battery indicator. The preamp is switched on by plugging a standard instrument cable into the endpin/strap pin jack. Unplugging the cable turns the preamp off. The TP4T is powered by a single 9 volt battery.

Inexpensive, not cheap.

What did I expect from a six hundred dollar guitar? The same thing I expect from my big money purchases. Enjoyment.
I got that and then some. Lovely detail in the tone of this guitar, it's a be... read more [+]autiful balance of the lows and highs. Nothing glares out of it until you ask it to. It's a tiny bit quiet on fingerpicking, but it's a SMALL jumbo, it just doesn't have the air to move the nuances of gentle fingerpicker, but boy does is sparkle if you amp it. It's clear, it's sensitive and it doesn't get muddy when you push it. I have but one complaint, the gold hardware. I like the nickel finish on my guitars, and I can live with the looks for the quality of the tuners. These things hold a tune for a month with good storage, easily. I opened the box, and was playing it before the bubble wrap hit the floor. Kudos to Sweetwater on a fantastic set-up. I was hesitant about buying a "cheap" Takamine, but this is a keeper. My son will own this guitar in 30 years. Along with a few others, but this one isn't a wall hanger, it gets played. A lot. The frets are holding up extremely well, and that's more than I can say for the Epiphone and Fender acoustics I own. This is a quality piece, built in a cheap labor force country. But there is certainly someone with a keen eye on quality control at Takamine.
If this got dropped or broken by accident today, I would order one tomorrow. No doubt about it, this thing plays up to it's looks, and it's certainly gorgeous.
Every expectation I had was exceeded. close [-]
