Premium effects onboard
The Soundcraft EFX mixer uses the same AudioDNA processor featured in many of the Digitech and Lexicon outboard equipment including the highly respected Lexicon MX400 processor. With over 35 years experience, the Lexicon name is synonymous with the best reverb and processing in the business, ensuring the finest quality effects not usually found in a console at this price level. The effects section fits neatly into the mixers compact framework which is available in 8 or 12 mono input variants, both with 2 stereo channels and an effects send on each channel. There are 32 effects to choose from with a tap tempo function, 3 effects parameter controls and a user effects setting store facility. An effects channel level clip LED and Mute function gives the user even more flexibility.

Easy to use
The emphasis with the Soundcraft EFX is very firmly on quality build and audio performance, with an easy to understand control surface in line with the Soundcraft professional range. The Soundcraft EFX uses the highly-transparent GB30 Mic amp (designed by Graham Blyth for the company's 30th anniversary, and also used on the larger LX7ii and GB Series professional consoles).

Great components
The Soundcraft EFX also offers all the features of the Soundcraft EPM most notably a configurable aux send, XLR and 1/4" metal jack connector sockets, RCA phono stereo playback inputs and record outputs, 3-band EQ with a swept mid on the mono inputs, 3-band EQ on the 2 stereo inputs, TRS insert sockets, inserts on all mono inputs, ten-segment LED output metering and a headphone output.

It Works!

Needed to provide a almost "one off" mix of small ensemble for FOH feed and also multi-track recording. Constructed special cables to tap into insertion points and into my Focusrite 18i20. No problems, no weirdness or gotchas ...

Mic preamps sound fine and very quiet. The build quality looks very good and is farily heavy. Price was right, although if in heavy, professional use, I might spring for something better (probably at x10 the price!). Probably a better solution is to buy a spare or backup of one of these ... I always believe in a "pair and a spare" ... and even the most expensive gear will fail at some point ...

Even the Lexicon came in handy, as I added a little space for the violin.

The five star rating is taking the price/performance/value ratios in consideration.

Only criticism is that the mute swithes need a light to remind you ... very difficult to see if button is in ...

A really nice mixer for ocassional use or a band on a budget. Highly recommended.

Outstanding Value vs Capability

When I was playing gigs in the mid to late 70s, we used a 32 channel Soundcraft (had a 16 band equalizer on it too). Now that I am old, and our church needed a system, I turned to Soundcraft. The Lexicon effects processor is stunning, and makes for a great room ambiance simulator. You can synthesize a hall of almost any size. The overall layout makes the mixer very intuitive to use. The mid-EQ swept cut-off helped with modeling women's vocals over the Shure SM58 mics. A very versatile and effective piece of gear. Have only explored half it's capabilities. Am very pleased with the results of our first Christmas special..

So far so good

The only issue we have had was dialing in the sound. At our first practice it was very high pitched, but apparently it is just that much different than our old mixer and after some work with the EQ we got it right. Have gigged once with it and all is good.

A nice compact desk

This is a really nice mixer, well thought out and laid out, and will service my needs very well. A few suggestions...how about an aux 1 mute switch, right under the master send knob? Since I'm using aux 1 to send to an outboard EFX unit, this would conveniently mute the send (or maybe better, the return) when I need it to.
Also, a socket for a lamp would be a nice touch. AND...always good to have an extra convenience outlet to plug into!
But overall, I really like this unit!

works for us.

Purchased March 2017. Used for live performance. Has been through about 20 gigs since then at different locations. No real issues so far. Build quality is good, but does not feel as sturdy as Allen & Heath gear. Pots feel less secure compared to A&H. The plastic cover for the power button came off after the second or third gig. Have to use pen or something to go in and push power button. I just leave it on now and use a Furman power strip to power up and down.

The signal routing is as straight forward as can be. Super easy.

Pros: slide faders, useful & highly adjustable effects (tho we just use light reverb), 12 dedicated mono input channels, mono out option, individual insert points on all channels (I use these with modified TRS cables to direct record each channel during live shows), relative small footprint, metal chassis, simple routing, PFL on each channel, sweepable mid is very useful, good gradation on level meter. .

Cons / room for improvement: Channel mutes do not light up. no Aux master (but I can adjust later in signal chain, so still workable), build quality does not feel as good as A&H, no level control for Tape-In (I use RCA>1/4" plugs into a stereo channel instead)

This has been a nearly perfect pick for our particular needs. The alternative for us would have likely been an used Allen & Heath MixWizard, but that is a completely different product segment and costs well over twice as much new. I decided to go with something new to avoid concerns about prior treatment, plus EFX12 had more manageable footprint.

Typical channel use: 4 vocals, Acoustic Guitar DI, Electric Guitar mic'd, Bass DI from amp, 1 or 2 drum OH mics, Snare/hat mic, Kick drum mic

Signal path:
Main > dbx 215 channel 1 > Crown XLS 2502 > 2 x Behringer BX215D *
Mon > dbx 215 channel 2 > Behringer inuke 1000 > 4 x kustom 10" floor monitors
* we will run a JBL 18" sub on occasion by splitting channels 1 and 2 on the crown XLS
