From Our Research Team:A no-frills tone monster! If you're lusting for a Gibson ES-335, but can't swing the lofty price, the Epiphone Dot is an attractive alternative. The Dot features a laminated mahogany body, a glued-in mahogany neck, and a rosewood fretboard. Its vintage pickups have alnico magnets (just like the vintage ones), and the faded finish lends the look of a well-loved, well-played instrument. The only differences are the headstock shape, single volume and tone controls instead of two each, and the bridge (which is wider than a Gibson Tune-o-matic). The Dot is well made. Its medium-sized frets are lightly polished and well shaped, the neck joint is clean, the hardware robust, and the finish is flawless. The Dot's neck is a little girthier than the ultra-slim sticks fitted to some 335's. It fills your hand nicely, and the low action makes it a delight to play. Played through a variety of amps, the Dot does a decent job of evoking the plump shimmer of a real 335. Higher gain settings yield some of the meaty rhythm colors and round, sweet lead tones associated with Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. The Dot features oversized volume pots that preserve the highs as you roll down the volume. The tone controls offer smooth, predictable treble rolloff. Epiphone "Faded" Dot Studio Features:

ReviewsEven better than I'd hoped.

I'm a 40 year old who's been in bands ranging from jazz to metal, back in the day. I'm a pastor now and most of my playing is at home or church. Got this guitar for use in worship services. I took ... read more [+]it out of the box and plugged it in, not crazy about factory strings, but it surprised me from the first strum. It sounded fantastic straight out of the box! This guitar has a nice warm tone, perfect for what I purchased it for. I played around a little and put some distortion on just to see how it sounded and this guitar can really rock. It really can run the gauntlet from jazz to blues to worship to the heaviest of stuff. I'd had Epiphones before and am familiar with their products but this was way beyond what I expected. The sound quality out of this guitar is amazing. It sounds like it should be a much more expensive guitar than it is. Honestly, even if I could afford a more expensive model, I'd still buy this one because you get a great sound at a fraction of the price. BTW, the picture doesn't do the guitar justice. It looks good in the pics but it is much more attractive than the pictures. My wife took one look at it and remarked what a good looking guitar it is. I can't say enough good things about this guitar. Great guitar, and super quick delivery. close [-]

I've read reviews for weeks. Finally decided to try this guitar. I love it. Great price, great guitar. I went to set the intonation, it was all spot on. Not that setting intonation is a big deal. Just... read more [+] shows that somebody cared and set the intonation. It's become my number one guitar, at least for the near future. I have a Gibson SG, Les Paul, and Fender Strat. I'm playing the Epi on stage. Nice guitar. Thanks for the reviews, your's may need fine tuning, mine really didn't. The rest of the band is also really impressed by the sounds I can get out of this guitar. Especially if your into some controlled feedback. Nice! close [-]

Can't beat it. Great guitar for a great price. It sounds great and plays great. I bought it to compliment my Les Paul and Fender Strat. Now I'm not sure which guitar I like better. Unbelieveable that ... read more [+]this guitar is in compition with my Les Paul. It's just a different feel, a different sound. Really sweet. I think I probably should have went with the Dot that has separate volume and tone controls for each pick-up, but I had to try this first. That may be my next guitar, however I love this faded wood look.September 8, 2008 Music Background: Southern Rock, Classic Rock, Blues and lot's of original stuff. You won't be disappointed. I play in the Savannah Blues Band. Old time bluesers, we're all over 50. This guitar fits in really nice. Jam on! close [-] Epiphone Faded Dot Studio (Worn)
