From Our Research Team:

Portable Apogee-quality sound!

Building on the success of the Ensemble, Apogee's Duet offers you the same integrated hardware and software technology in a streamlined 2-channel audio interface. Its low-profile design makes it a perfect fit for your Apple-based home studio or laptop workstation. The Duet offers you 100% Apogee quality and clarity, with pristine 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution and ultra-clear microphone preamps for pro-level audio. Like the Ensemble, the Duet integrates seamlessly with Logic, Final Cut, Soundtrack Pro, and GarageBand software for the ultimate in stability. And it gets its power from your computer via its FireWire 400 connection, so you can take Duet with you anywhere to make incredible sounding recordings!

Duet is the first two-channel audio interface with control functions built directly into Apple's music and video production software, but what if you want to use Duet with other audio applications on your Mac? No problem — the included Maestro software lets you use the Duet with any core-audio-based program. With Maestro, you can control all of Duet's capabilities and settings and use Duet with any Core Audio-compatible application. With the assignable MIDI and selective muting options in Maestro, Duet's control knob becomes a one-touch manager of all your I/O functions while totally simplifying the process of recording and listening, and a simple setting in Maestro lets you monitor your input and output levels.

The Apogee Duet gives you two superbly clear microphone inputs, each with phantom power and up to 75dB of gain. An I/O breakout cable makes connecting your microphones, instruments, and speakers easy and elegant. The breakout cable has two XLR connections and dual, 1/4" high impedance inputs, which are ideal for any combination of two instruments, such as guitars, basses, and keyboards. Each high-quality connector is clearly labeled with the corresponding icon and the speaker connectors are distinguished by a unique purple slider. The breakout cable provides a natural strain relief between the Duet and its connections, and it lets you easily disconnect your Duet from your equipment for on-the-go portability.

WOW, coming from a mbox 2 to this has such a better set up in sound quality. I remember when I first plugged it in and played even basic music from my itunes, i stared to hear much more depth in the m... read more [+]usic. now i've had this little partner for about 13 months but what excited me the most ( which is more of a pro tools 9 thing) is that we can now use it with pro tools 9. Doing so you know i trashed the old mbox 2 and stuck to this main partner as my interface. I will say this as well i recently went up to the ensemble which has more inputs but the sound quality on the duet is on par with even it's bigger brother. Such a great sound piece of gear if you are doing mainly computer base music and few instrument tracks its A MUST BUY!!! close [-]

THE CLARITY OF THE PRE-AMPS AND THE A/D CONVERSION ON THIS THING IS UN-HEARD OF FOR SOMETHING THIS SMALL AND COSTS THIS MUCH.

I DID RESEARCH FOR A MONTH ONLINE TRYING TO FIND A BETTER INTERFACE TO REPLACE MY MBOX2. EVERYTIME I CAME ACROSS A PRODUCT, IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE IN "THE KNOW" HAD TO COMPARE IT TO THE "DUET". ALL I KEPT READING WAS..."HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO THE DUET?".....ETC. SO I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO LOOK IT UP. TURNS OUT IT RECENTLY WON AN AWARD FOR A/D CONVERSION. THATS ALL I NEEDED TO HEAR. I WAS SOLD, AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! LIKE A GUY WROTE BEFORE ME, U BETTER BUY IT NOW BEFORE THEY REALIZE THAT THEY ARE SELLING THIS THING TOO CHEAP!!!!

JUST BUY IT. LOOK NO FURTHER!!!!!!!! close [-]

Apogee has a true winner with the Duet! My clients that are on-the-go recording engineers and artists are loving it! Like the Ensemble, the Duet gives you top-class converters, tight integration, and super stability with most any Core Audio application, and awesome features for such a small and affordable FireWire interface.
