Sweetwater Advice

Bob Mondok
One of the most musical sounding preamps I have ever used. The limiters do the right thing without much tweaking which makes it very intuitive and a joy to use. I use mine on all of my recordings and they have never sounded better!

Sounded Great With Vocals and Bass!!!

I don't yet know much about preamps, as I am only 14, but I recorded an album at a local professional recording studio and this was one Preamp I remember the engineer having, I think it was his only one. He put the vocalist and the bassist through it and they both sounded amazing...

The Vocalist is a female with a low shrill, voice and it made her sound smoother and put her way in-front of the mix. The Bassist was going through a compressor pedal and then into the Langevin and he sounded great. The only problem, the engineer sucked!!!

If I had to choose one Pre-Amp to buy, this would be the one!!! I plan on adding this to my Preamp collection as soon as I get my studio off the ground!!!

THIS IS MORE THAN WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!

DVC

The Langevin DVC is very flexible. The ELOP limiter section can be used seperately from the pre-amps. So you can send a signal from another pre-amp into the ELOP section if you want a different pre-amp color.

The ELOP section takes 1/4-inch TS or TRS input. And the ELOP has 12 db of clean gain. So this unit doubles as a stereo-linked re-balancing tool if you have an unbalanced signal that need to be raised cleanly and balanced.

The ELOP section also works wonderfully to tame transient peaks in a stereo mix. You can level transients by about 3db without noticeable effect on the overall mix. But if you try to reduce peaks more than 3db on a master mix, you will notice loss of crispness in the high hat and snare beats. So it's not a cure all for massive peak reduction.

The pre-amps are very transparent and clear. I like to use it to power a pair of Shure SM-81s as drum overheads.

My main criticism is with the EQ pots in the pre-amp section. They cannot be tweaked during tracking without causing a noticeable break up of the signal. It sounds momentarily like dirty pots or partially connected cable. It takes about two seconds for EQ tweaks to settle down and the full, smooth signal to return.

Amazing tracking device!

I bought one of these guys after doing some intense research. All I can say, is it's worth every penny you can dole out. The vocals track beautifully, and, although it has no compressor, the limiter really shines after some tweaking. I cannot see myself ever parting from this one. It's here to stay

I Love This Baby

I just love the simplicity, style, and sonic charactor it adds to my projects. It's Like my Number one Box. Maybe just outa habit since I also have a UA 6176 as well as some other channel strips.
I have been using mine for years and typically I use it with Vocals, Acoustic guitars, Amps and sometimes the drums. I love the limiter, although I usually do my eq in the computer. The DI works great to. Seams to have a higher noise floor than some of my other mic pres but I still love it.

Great Bang for the Buck and even better

I have a small home studio using Apogee AD and DA 16x converters. I have Tube Tech Mic Pre's, Neve Mic Pre's and EQ's, Groove Tube Vipre, Crane Song Trakker's, ElectroHarmonix Stereo Compressor. I received this several months ago and have been using it exclusively for vocals and acoustic guitars mic'd. I love it. It is simple to use and the sound is great. The two shelf boost/att's are great. They are warm and tasty. I would recommend this for anyone.
For me the only downside is the gain could use a bit more boost for really low powered input. I will buy another one and possibly two.
