The Dual Vocal Combo is for any audio pro who enjoys making great music more than patching, teaking, and twiddling. This mic pre breaks it down to a two channel microphone preamplifier with two shelf equalizers plus two channels of electro-optical limiters. It offers the reliability, functionality, and the sound you demand without the complexity. There's two channels of great sounding, all discrete, "channel strips" from Manley Labs. This includes VU meters, phantom power, limiter linking and time proven circuitry.

This is what a great pre is supposed to sound like. And it is incredibly easy to use! While some don't think the shelving eq is that useful, I have found it to work very nicely at removing boom while keeping some bottom to vocals. The limiter is simply a bargain as part of the deal. It is very, very good at what it does and again, is very easy to use and get a great sound out of. Although I think it is partly because they just seem to be so closely matched response wise, I have a couple of AT 2035's that through this thing sound about as good as anything I and any of my friends have heard. Everyone says the sound is both very natural but also sounds just like them. I'm not saying it will do this wilth all inexpensive mics, but as good as it makes those 2035's sound, can you imagine how good an AT 4047 and AKG 414XL sound through it? I know! I don't know how Manley is selling these things for the price. They are a steal for what you get, especially considering it is hand built, all parts are spec matched and the unit is calibrated and tested twice before it leaves the factory. That is quality control you just can't get any other way.... close [-]

He put the vocalist and the bassist through it and they both sounded amazing...

The Vocalist is a female with a low shrill, voice and it made her sound smoother and put her way in-front of the mix. The Bassist was going through a compressor pedal and then into the Langevin and he sounded great. The only problem, the engineer sucked!!!

If I had to choose one Pre-Amp to buy, this would be the one!!! I plan on adding this to my Preamp collection as soon as I get my studio off the ground!!!

The Langevin DVC is very flexible. The ELOP limiter section can be used seperately from the pre-amps. So you can send a signal from another pre-amp into the ELOP section if you want a different pre-am... read more [+]p color.

The ELOP section takes 1/4-inch TS or TRS input. And the ELOP has 12 db of clean gain. So this unit doubles as a stereo-linked re-balancing tool if you have an unbalanced signal that need to be raised cleanly and balanced.

The ELOP section also works wonderfully to tame transient peaks in a stereo mix. You can level transients by about 3db without noticeable effect on the overall mix. But if you try to reduce peaks more than 3db on a master mix, you will notice loss of crispness in the high hat and snare beats. So it's not a cure all for massive peak reduction.

The pre-amps are very transparent and clear. I like to use it to power a pair of Shure SM-81s as drum overheads.

My main criticism is with the EQ pots in the pre-amp section. They cannot be tweaked during tracking without causing a noticeable break up of the signal. It sounds momentarily like dirty pots or partially connected cable. It takes about two seconds for EQ tweaks to settle down and the full, smooth signal to return. close [-]

I just love the simplicity,style,and sonic charactor it adds to my projects. It's Like my Number one Box. Maybe just outa habit since I also have a UA 6176 as well as some other channel strips.
... read more [+] I have been using mine for years and typically I use it with Vocals, Acoustic guitars, Amps and sometimes the drums. I love the limiter, although I usually do my eq in the computer. The DI works great to. Seams to have a higher noise floor than some of my other mic pres but I still love it. close [-]
