From Our Research Team:

One of Blue's Most Affordable Mics

. . . and Electronic Musician’s 2001 Editors’ Choice Award for Best Microphone! Complete with an integrated elastic shockmount, this cardiod condenser studio mic brings B.L.U.E.’s big, bright sound to a new low price point. For vocals, the Dragonfly rules. It provides a similar sweet sound as that of the vintage Neumann and AKG mics heard on thousands of pop recordings in a huge range of styles. Similar in quality, that is, because the Dragonfly is no mere imitator. It puts its own distinctive signature on the sound. No matter what the size of your recording facility, you NEED a Dragonfly in your studio! The ability to position the capsule at so many angles relative to a sound source opens up a world of sonic opportunity for you. And since the Dragonfly is the most affordable of B.L.U.E.’s high-performance mics, project studio owners can now afford to treat their studio to these sweet B.L.U.E. sounds.

Features:
  • Multi-purpose mic - ideal for pop vocal, electric guitar, and drum overheads
  • Cardioid Condenser with Class A discrete circuitry
  • Blue's famous hand-built large diaphragm capsule
  • Versatile sound - rich lows, contoured mid-range, silky presence in the highs
  • Integrated elastic shockmount and rotating head for optimal placement
  • Hand-tuned and tested
  • Includes linen storage box

These things are great. They have a smooth sound and nothing is harsh. I have two and I use them for overheads when I want a fatter room sound. They are nice and "chesty" for lack of better terms.... read more [+] />
Guitar stuff. WOW. When I track guitars, I like to get the amps WAY up in volume and move tons of air. This mic handles it extremely well. Another cool thing is the capsule can rotate; guitar layers sit nicely together when I turn it slightly.

I have been able to do incredible things with this mic. A workhorse for sure. And the company is awesome. Great people. close [-]

Sweetwater Advice

Sage SanMartin
If you're searching for a vocal mic that is detailed and clear, while also smoothing and warming up your take, the Dragonfly handles it with style. It gives a subtle sheen to everything it records, sounding polished for the mix. User tip on drums: The Dragonfly seems tailor made for toms, especially the floor tom. This is the sound!

This is one of my favorite microphones in my collection. I've been happy with it on vocals and guitar amps as Blue suggests, but it's also become my secret weapon on snare drum...it sounds great, and is very easy to place because of its design. Speaking of that, it's also the coolest-looking microphone in my studio.
