From Our Research Team:

A Great Way to Add Eight Channels to Your Studio!

The PreSonus DigiMAX FS is an 8-channel microphone preamplifier, with 24-bit/96kHz ADAT dual SMUX I/O and word clock I/O. Loaded with direct outputs and inserts on every channel, the DigiMAX FS is the perfect hardware expansion for your FireStudio or any digital recording system with optical light pipe expansion capability including DigiDesign’s HD and 002 systems, RME, YAMAHA, Alesis, Mackie, and many others.

PreSonus DigiMAX FS at a Glance:
  • Eight Class A mic preamps
  • New jitter reduction technology for smear-free audio
  • Handles wide variations in clock frequencies

Eight Class A mic preamps
The DigiMAX FS starts with eight custom-designed high-voltage, discrete, XMAX Class A microphone preamplifiers. PreSonus knows that the preamplifier is a key component in the sonic quality of a recording. The job of a microphone preamplifier is to boost microphone level signals to line level so that the signal can be converted from analog to digital. This mic to line boost is generally a preamplification of over 400 times the voltage of the original mic level signal. This preamplification stage is one of the most important stages that the signal will go through before converted to digital, and is why a high performance preamplifier is important to achieving great results. A cheap "off the shelf op-amp" type mic preamp that is found in many 8 channel preamps with digital output, translates into thin, noisy and harsh results.

New jitter reduction technology for smear-free audio
The DigiMAX FS is loaded with new patented JetPLL jitter reduction technology ensuring ultra-high converter performance, fast and robust locking through a wide range and variation of frequencies and noise shaping to remove nearly all audio band jitter.

Handles wide variations in clock frequencies
The DigiMAX FS locks up to any digital format quickly, through a wide range of frequencies. It's extremely robust and tolerant of wide variations in clock frequencies. This ensures near-perfect clock performance when networking audio devices.

PreSonus DigiMAX FS Features:
  • Eight Class A microphone preamps w/ trim control
  • 24-bit resolution, 44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96kHz sampling rate
  • 96kHz ADAT input and output (dual SMUX)
  • JetPLL jitter reduction technology for ultra tight synchronization
  • Direct outputs and inserts on every channel
  • Word clock input and output
  • Ensures highest converter performance possible, resulting in better separation

I/O, Pres and a rock solid external clock source...

by Rob from Orlando

This thing rocks. In effect, a 1u rackmount, lightpipe, PreSonus-pre packin mixer, external clock source and the perfect companion for a patch bay since the inputs on the FS are front and center.

I run this optically (in and out) into my 003 and set ProTools to use the variable clock source onboard the FS - And boom, big performance increase since the PC no longer has to process the clock itself. I could go on and on about just how good it is. Yeah, it doesnt have meters - but I'll take ext. clock and ch. inserts over lights any day. close [-]

Great Preamp for Project Studio

I recently upgraded from the M-Audio Delta 1010 to the M-Audio ProFire LightBridge. Using a Digimax FS and and D8 I am able to get 16 VERY nice pre's into my ProTools M Powered. I can record my entire... read more [+] band live in one shot.

I use the inserts on the FS for some very light compression on a few channels and it allows me to get hot signals on very dynamic sources that I know I will squash later anyway. I set the clock on all three units to the wordclock on the FS and I have not had a hint of drop out.

I recorded an acoustic artist with some very close-miked, intimate vocals and the project sounded pristine.

Great Product

I added this unit to my digi 002-rack system just to add 8 more inputs via toslink adat. Just one cable from the Digimax fs to my digi 002 was all that was needed to set this unit up. It has built in ... read more [+]word clock, and the pres absolutely BLOW AWAY the 002 rack preamps.
I immediately noticed a difference when plugging in a Mic or Guitar to this unit. Pro Tools noticed the unit and added 8 more adat inputs that can be selected within any track just like the digi 002 inputs. If you buy one of these, you will use it for your 8 most important inputs and go into the 002 only if you need more than eight simultaneous inputs. I had some questions while setting up the unit about the world clock as I am new to digital recording. I called Pre Sonus and the rep I spoke to was incredibly knowledgeable, polite and, took as much time as necessary to explain everything to me. You will not be disappointed if you purchase the ProSonus Digimax FS. close [-]

If your using a Digi 002r get this, NOW!

Once I got this thing hooked up to my Digi 002 rack I immediately wished I had gotten it sooner. You will INSTANTLY notice the difference in the mic pres over the stock 002's. Don't get me wrong the p... read more [+]res in the 002 are usable, I used them for a long time as my only pres - they will now be the LAST ones in line (In all fairness though, the TwinFinity from UA comes first). Hooking this thing up is SIMPLE - just get a couple of GOOD toslink cables, set your 002 to receive ADAT, set your Digimax to Internal and your done! 002 will receive its clock from Digimax- don't use the Digi clock. My only issues (and this is why they have multiple models, I understand - they are trying to keep the price points of each of the models)- issue 1 - Only 2 phantom switches for 8 pres, mildly annoying; issue 2 - No bass rolloff, again not huge, but I like this option to get rid of rumble without having to hit an eq. Both of these issues are easily ignored by the ease and quality of the FS though. close [-]
