Andrew MalloyThe Delta 66 has been flawless in my mastering PC for so long that I forget that it is there. It has been the illustration of how to design a great card that works so well. 3 Years of constant use

We have been using this card at our church for almost 3 years, and it works well with our fedora 8 PLANET CCRMA (slightly outdated) recording setup. It dose what it needs to and sounds good. We have n... read more [+]ot used the digital ins and outs.May 16, 2010 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Hobbyist, Student This card deserves a 3 star because it falsely advertises that it is balanced, this is absolutely not the case, we have opened up the breakout box, and discovered it simply terminates the balanced connection. This is a problem because we run 50 - 75 (I do not know the length exactly) and we are forced to use line matching transformers at the end with the audio card, because they make the connection balanced. It works, but it is silly that we need them. I would recommend this card for a small recording setup, but not for setups with long cables or high quality needs. close [-] Nice Card
by Joe from Butler, PA
The best kind of review is the one that's based on lengthy experience with the product. With that being said, I've been using two of these cards in two workstations since 2004, and here's my thoughts ... read more [+]after all of that time...January 30, 2008 Music Background: Audio Restoration and Post Production PROS: The sound quality is very good for the price. The breakout box is well built; inside and out, and the cable from it to the PCI card is more than long enough for normal situations (it's about 24 inches). You can use either balanced or unbalanced inputs and outputs with the box. The SPDIF ins and outs give really nice sound too; although a wee bit thin. But then again, I'm old school, and I expect more warmth from my audio. Thus, I rarely do any work using SPDIF anyways. I simply find the sound to be too thin. The sound card software/drivers work perfectly with my Sony audio apps, and a few others, and it works well overall. CONS: The software is very finicky with low end software; espeically software that's designed to "handshake" with the card. A perfect example is the audio restoration program known as Diamond Cut. After 4 years of trying, I never could get that program (multiple versions) to cooperate with the card's software. I also ran into similar problems with other low end software packages.(But as I said previously, if you're using high end software, you should be fine.) Other negatives are M-Audio tech support. It's part of the growing trend of tech support simply being bad. Along with that, product drivers and updates have a few very annoying characteristics... 1. The software mixer automatically booting up with Windows, and then not closing when you tell it to. You wind up having to go into Task Manager to get it out of the system tray. 2. The update drivers installation program telling you to remove the card before updating. Annoying problems, and just plain stupid as well. Summation: It's a nice sounding little setup. It's certainly not an RME or a Lynx, but it sure as heck does a nice job for the much lower price. Just be prepared for bad tech support and some annoying software and driver updating issues. close [-]
