From Our Research Team:Semi-hollow Hybrid GuitarThe Gibson Midtown Custom is the innovative and exciting hybrid you'e been looking for. Gibson started with a solid mahogany body, which they chambered and then topped with a solid maple cap. You'll love the feel of the new Midtown body shape. Larger than your typical solid body but smaller than a hollowbody, the Midtown feels just right cradled in your arms. And the '60s Slim-Taper neck gives you the comfortable playability you expect from a Gibson. A pair of Burstbuckers and a gorgeous nitro finish top off the Gibson Midtown Custom.Gibson Midtown Custom at a Glance:
Unique Body Construction and Size The most unique aspect of the Gibson Midtown Standard is the innovative body. It is slightly larger than your everyday solid body electric guitar, yet smaller than a typical semi-hollowbody. The body is made from solid mahogany and is strategically chambered for optimal sound and relieved weight. The Gibson Midtown Standard features a solid maple top with f-holes to give it a definitive semi-hollow look and feel. Black Richlite fingerboard The Gibson Midtown Custom has a Black Richlite fingerboard. This extremely dense material gives you the look of ebony - along with snappy attack and prodigious sustain typical of that revered tonewood. Richlite is made primarily of (recycled) paper (certified by the Forest Stewardship Council) from managed forests. The paper is treated with resin, then pressed and baked to create solid sheets. The same material has been used for decades in aerospace, the marine industry, and in sports (e.g., skate ramp surfaces), so you know it's durable. Environmental sustainability and great sustain - Black Richlite gives you both. Nitrocellulose finish The Gibson Midtown Custom wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes - standard back in the '60s and '70s - are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful; they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities. Gibson Midtown Custom Features:

ReviewsA new kind of Custom
by Desmond Smith from Tupelo MS
I received my Midtown Custom last week. I honestly bought this guitar on somewhat of a whim. I've been wanting a guitar "like" this for a long time, but Gibson wasn't really making anything as close t... read more [+]o what I wanted until now. March 5, 2012 Music Background: Musician Let me just start by saying that from the moment I opened the case I was blown away. I've been playing guitar for a little over 15 years now, and have owned just about every kind of guitar imaginable .. But nothing quite like this. I currently own a Custom Shop 68' Custom VOS in Ebony, and it's a great guitar but with in minutes of playing the Midtown I came to the realization that it sounds better than my 68' ... Ouch! And the 68' Custom has a real Ebony fretboard! So there you go... I guess I'm sold on the Richlite. Anyhow, this guitar plays great, I prefer larger necks but the 60's neck on this guitar is actually super comfortable (not near as slim as I had expected it to be), another big surprise to me. And the fretboard feels great .. It's almost like a worn in Ebony board, it's softer and a bit smoother feeling than actual Ebony. All I can say is that I'm just super impressed! Ok and now for the biggest jaw dropper for me .. The fit and finish work on this guitar is absolutely flawless! I searched and searched to try and find at least one flaw (especially in the binding) I found not a single one. Frets are perfect. Pickups sound fantastic! Finish is flawless. Electronics work great, switch and volume/tone knobs are smooth, quiet, and have a great taper to them. Great guitar, and I've just got to give it up to Gibson and I don't normally let them have this much credit but damn, they did an amazing job with this one. John Ptak, my sales engineer was absolutely perfect and called me today to see if I like the guitar or not lol .. That's pretty damn cool if you ask me. Super nice dude. close [-] Also popular
