From Our Research Team:Semi-hollow Hybrid GuitarThe Gibson Midtown Custom is the innovative and exciting hybrid you'e been looking for. Gibson started with a solid mahogany body, which they chambered and then topped with a solid maple cap. You'll love the feel of the new Midtown body shape. Larger than your typical solidbody but smaller than a hollowbody, the Midtown feels just right cradled in your arms. And the '60s Slim-Taper neck gives you the comfortable playability you expect from a Gibson. A pair of Burstbuckers and a gorgeous nitro finish top off the Gibson Midtown Custom.Gibson Midtown Custom at a Glance:
Unique Body Construction and Size The most unique aspect of the Gibson Midtown Standard is the innovative body. It is slightly larger than your everyday solidbody electric guitar, yet smaller than a typical semi-hollowbody. The body is made from solid mahogany and is strategically chambered for optimal sound and relieved weight. The Gibson Midtown Standard features a solid maple top with f-holes to give it a definitive semi-hollow look and feel. Black Richlite fingerboard The Gibson Midtown Custom has a Black Richlite fingerboard. This extremely dense material gives you the look of ebony - along with snappy attack and prodigious sustain typical of that revered tonewood. Richlite is made primarily of (recycled) paper (certified by the Forest Stewardship Council) from managed forests. The paper is treated with resin, then pressed and baked to create solid sheets. The same material has been used for decades in aerospace, the marine industry, and in sports (e.g., skate ramp surfaces), so you know it's durable. Environmental sustainability and great sustain - Black Richlite gives you both. Nitrocellulose finish The Gibson Midtown Custom wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes - standard back in the '60s and '70s - are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful; they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities. Gibson Midtown Custom Features:

I have been blown away with how smooth the next feels and plays and the flat top does not bother me at all. I would much rather have a excellent feeling and playing synthetic neck than a cheap rosewood neck. The Burstbucker pickups are excellent, I have put them in some of my other guitars and they never disappoint (Gibson also puts them in some of their extremely high dollar guitars). Overall an excellent guitar sold by an excellent company. close [-]
October 26, 2012 Music Background: Lead Guitar in semi-pro band It's a Gibson.....
by Nick from NJ
Sounds really great, and I love the custom looks for the price. Burstbuckers are some of my favorite pickups. Here's the negative stuff. Dust in the binding. Poorly cut nut. The nut is easy enough to ... read more [+]fix, but considering that Gibson plecked this thing, and the frets and action are near perfect, why leave the nut alone?? My low E and G string literally just sit on top of the nut! The dust in the binding is the worst though. I am a little ADD about stuff like that, and I found several pieces all throughout the guitar. You can scrape them out, but you have to dig into the binding a bit. I played a few at local music stores after I got this thing, and they all had the same issues. Just something to be careful of before you spend your dough. It really is a great feeling and playing guitar, and I don't regreat my purchase, but c'mon Gibson...turn on the vacuum in the finishing room. close [-]
