My rating is a nice 3 out of 5.May 19, 2013 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Producer, Sound Engineer, Session guitar player DR Strings offers us a set calibrated for down-tuning with these DDT. The overall quality of the strings is good, strings are fresh, they smell good and feel ... read more [+]great under the fingers. -> Although, you can sometimes receive sets that are a bit corroded or damaged. This is due to the methods of production: these strings are handmade ! This being said, I've had 1 bad set since I started using these (1 out of almost 80 sets). <- Gauge is 11-54, I used to tune my six string guitar to Drop C with this set. It was great, super tight and focused sounding even with loooads of gain. Though, it felt a bit stiff to my taste, I now tune to Drop B. Within the D'addario EXL, GHS Boomers, Ernie Ball Power Slinkys, Dunlop Heavy Cores and Dean Markley Nickelplated, these strings have a stiffness that is between EXLs and Power Slinkys. They are not as hard as Dunlop Heavy Cores but their tonal characteristics are quite unique: somehow feels a bit like an Ernie Ball Cobalt set without the super-floppiness and boosted output of it. I recommend these strings to anyone struggling to find a guitar strings set to down-tune guitars without going for monstrous 13-64s and without sacrificing tonal characteristics. Important to mention: these strings wear off quickly and they lose their brilliant sound after 2/3 weeks. They last 1 month or plus for me, I use Dunlop String Cleaner and GHS Fastfret. close [-] Also popular
