Good but not professional
by Wave Junkie from Seattle, WA, May 2008
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Musician
This thing is great at doing its job. It is intended for musicians to "jot down" a fleeting idea before it is lost forever or to record a band practice. The menus are really easy to understand and there are a few cool features like overdub mode, metronome, and tuner (although to access tuner you have to plug the guitar straight in, you can't tune an acoustic through the mics).
I'm not keeping the unit because I was hoping to be able to use a recorded take here and there in a multi-track mix or to do some field recording but the quality is just not there. But like I said this thing does everything it was intended to do and it does it well.
DR-1

We bought 20 DR-1's, one for every secondary school in our district. Not a problem yet. Great little unit and an excellent choice for on the fly recording. I use mine for quick recording in the classroom. I also use it for recording private lessons, each student provides their own SD card. After the lesson, just pop it out and the student takes it home with them.
Just a note about the high level of service from Sweetwater: I bought 1 DR-1 a month ago to try out and it was not working properly. One call to Sweetwater and they sent FEDEX for a pickup the next day. To top it all off, after FEDEX picked it up I called Sweetwater with the tracking number and they sent the replacement right out. I had my new DR-1 2 days after I recived the 1st one. Now thats SERVICE!!
Excellent Recorder

i was looking for a compact way to record while out and about to build a sound library and record voices etc- the little DR-1 has fit the bill Perfectly. everything about it has impressed me from the recording quality to the ease of connecting it via USB to my mac to transfer the recordings. i juice the built-in rechargeable battery via the USB connection as well and have not even had to think about power (changing / buying batteries etc). the ONLY mark against this unit is the delicacy of the little door one opens to connect said USB cable: as with many electronic portables it feel VERY breakable but, if used with deliberate care shouldn't be an issue and hence doesn't affect the overall slam-dunk score i give the unit.
Awesome product!

The DR-1 is a total bang for the buck winner.
Ive used this to record all sorts of events from interviews to live music to home recordings.
Very easy to use and the audio quality is excellent
I haven't used the mutli tracking feature yet , but I look forward to doing so soon.
