So you know where I'm coming from, I am a professional sound designer and engineer currently working as A2 on a production using twenty of these at a well known lort d theatre.January 2, 2011 Music Background: Professional Sound Designer and Engineer We have ... read more [+]had these mics for about two months and it has been problem after problem with both the transmitters and receivers. Even with the 50MW transmission, reception is terrible. We are also using a Shure UR1M with the same 50mw power and same antennas without any problems. Maybe if the performer is wearing the pack over their clothes it would work, but in the real world dropouts are unavoidable. This is the second problem. Instead of just discretely cutting out, these make an awful digital noise when they drop out. Build quality of these also seems weak. Several times, I have had the window over the display pop out. The receivers also feel flimsy. Several of them shipped with knobs that felt gritty or buttons that didn't work unless you pushed them hard enough to make your finger hurt. These are problems that would have been caught if AKG did 100% testing, as Lectrosonics does. Other problems that should have been caught include battery meters that will sometimes drop to a bar or two for half an hour or more before returning to normal and he RF indicator lights on several receivers have gone out for undetermined reasons only to return several days later. The only good point about these is the sound quality is excellent if you can get them working. Overall.. Pay a little more and get the Lectrosonics SMDa. It is worth it to avoid the stress and headaches. The Lectrosonics are also digital but they are much smaller, better battery life, much more durable milled aluminum housing, 100% testing of all their equipment, equal or better sound quality, made in the USA. They also have some additional features, such as remote RF muting and six channel per rack space receivers. close [-] AKG DPT 700 (Body Pack (Band 1))
