Just What I Needed

If you're doing backing tracks, get this.
My current project has backing tracks for every song. My usual workflow was to sequence, mix, and bounce the backing track (sometimes I end up with 20 or more tracks), import it into iTunes and copy it to an iPod. The problem with that is it's really easy to fat finger an iPod and turn the volume down while switching between tracks, and iPods don't have a single play mode so you have to put each song in it's own playlist or split songs up with silence tracks. Additionally when we rehearse, we always find bits of the backing track mix that need to be adjusted, if you re-import the same song into iTunes, you get a different version, so which version of the mix are you putting in the iPod? The only way to be sure is to delete the old version before importing the new version, then you have to re-enter all the track info if you want to find it. What a pain.
With this unit, all I have to do is copy my bounces to an SD card or USB stick and I know I have the latest mix. All the level controls have to be pushed out to adjust so you can set the output level then push the control in and it will never change, this means the send level to the mains will always be the same. It has a single play mode so I don't have to add silence tracks to my set list. If you get one, make sure you have the latest firmware (17.30), you can download it from the Denon pro website.
Good stuff.

Great Product, Well Worth The Money!

This Mp3 player is great! It has a lot of bells and whistles it makes it well worth the money. There are other companies selling products that seem similar but don't be fooled. You can set the pitch differently, cue up the next song, play music from a flash drive or an SD card by selecting playing it in order, random, etc.
If you DJ or use tracks while singing this is well worth the money. I have used iPods for my music for years but this rack mounts and I no longer have to worry about setting them up and using them while on stage. The sound person can cue everything up for you, pause, select a different song, or whatever. You can also get one and set it up with a home stereo system, it comes with the rubber feet so you can add it to any set up. Denon got this right and I am glad they did because it's exactly what I needed.

Superbly reliable on-stage kit

100% reliable - does exactly what I want. Plays .wav AND .mp3 tracks in ANY order, one-at-a-time-then-stop, random, continuous. Separate, controllable monitor feed, low-profile, instant start. Lightweight (gr8 for touring), robust. Uses universally-available memory card AND USB stick.

Connectivity (no XLR's) is the ONLY slight critique.

Exceptional piece of gear

Pros: Unique, well thought out design, great quality for the money, sorely needed product for the industry, 1 RU
Cons: No balanced outs. No serial or Ethernet remote control ports. (Denon, let's get this perfect the next time around!)
