I bought the DM5 Pro kit a year ago, and have been thrilled with the accuracy and realism of both playing feel and sounds. Real heads, adjustable tension. Dual-zone snare comes factory set with the ... read more [+]rimshot triggering a crash cymbal, but it's easily reprogrammed to one of several rimshot choices. No noise-induced hearing loss. Practice with realism yet not disturb condo/apartment neighbors. About 30 sets can be stored, so aside from the standard sets (big room, jazz, rock, etc.) there's room to set up specialty sets like a full set of tambourines, or shakers, or congas. This set is so flexible that for the conga set, I set up two heads to trigger random congas ("random high" and "random low", respectively). Those heads triggers a different type of conga sound with each successive hit. There are about 3 different head sensitivity settings -- trigger sensitivity, rejection of false triggering from alternate drums, and range of volume -- all of which are interactive and need to be setup properly, but only once, for each "pad". April 2, 2009 Music Background: Songwriter, musician The "Surge" cymbals weren't available at the time of my purchase, but it seems Alesis has made the correct incremental improvement as the Surge cymbals probably offer the more accurate "feel" of cymbals. My cymbal triggers are the only part of the set that feels like practice pads. close [-] DM5 Pro Kit - wow!

When assembling, take care to firmly secure all the heads and cymbal pads (especially hi-hat) because they won't respond to velocity well if they are dangling loosely in place. Easy to setup, easy to connect. Considering my Gibson SG cost $1000 and it's two pieces of wood and some pickups, I am astounded at how a complete kit with a good module can come in at $600. Truly amazing. I looked around at plenty of kits, and in the price range, you cannot find any better. My only gripe is that the pictures show a kick pedal. THERE IS NO KICK PEDAL! You only are made aware of that after you receive the item. I wish I would have known that upfront. Shame on Sweetwater for that one. Otherwise, a great kit! close [-]
