Must Have!

The Boss DB-30 digital metronome is very accurate and is easy to use. I owned a mechanical metronome but it has limitations. DB-30 Quality is among the best. And has all the settings I need for rhythm, beats, etc for strumming or picking and fingerstyle. Sunni my sales representative was very helpful and knowledgeable. Now there is no more guessing with my old mechanical metronome. If I need 71 bpm and correct rhythm setting for any song gives me convenience I am playing each song correctly.

Metronome Maddness

At home I have a built-in metronome on my Roland V-drum's TD-17 sound module. When I go downtown to the studio where I have my acoustic kit I have the familiar clockwork wooden metronome like the one on the family's piano back in the 60's. When I FINALLY got an Android phone recently, the FIRST and ONLY app I downloaded was a metronome. When I got my FIRST phone bill I was surprised when I was warned that I was using too much data for my plan. Apparently running a metronome app on your android really CHEWS UP your monthly allotment of minutes!

Clearly, what I needed was a dedicated metronome which I could see at about 5 feet away from my drum stool. I was looking for something I could mount on a cymbal stand. I may be mistaken, but there were really only 3 choices for me. They are the Tama RW200 Rhythm Watch ($100), the Boss DB-90 ($150) and the Boss DB-30 ($50). I got the DB-30. Why?? IT WAS THE CHEAPEST of the 3. IF I don't like it NEXT I'll try the $100 one .. .

Using a quarter-sized coin stuck in the handy slot provided for this activity, I set up the metronome on a snare in front of the drum kit. It is POINTLESS to turn up the sound of the AUDIO click with the little wheel on the side of the unit as you will be PLAYING DRUMS ( not so fast, mate .. . there IS a headphone jack AND a belt-clip on this baby!.. . you know, wear the metronome in your pocket or clip it to your belt, like a tosser .. . )

GREAT SCOTT!! On the face of the unit, on either side of the, "BOSS" logo are two DISCO LIGHTS! They blink on the 1-count and all the subdivisions!!!

NOW .. . I can RULE TIME! At 5 feet I can still SEE the sweep of the needle as it crosses the LED screen. The two red disco lights glow like alligator eyes in a darkened swamp .. . IT's TIME to ROCK!

Sorry .. . I got a little crazy there at the end .. . Bottom line. Get this little beast and YOU, too .. . can rule Time!

Solid Little Metronome

Don't believe the disparaging remarks about this little guy. Its a great tool for learning how to keep time with the beat across a wide range of bpm settings. I primarily got this for my son since I've begun teaching him guitar or piano (letting him choose). I used this with my old Tele for about a week and hasn't failed me yet in any way. I just set it on my amp head, set the bpm and time signature, and press start. Volume control is practical and functional; unless you're deaf as a bone, the electronic "ticking" of this little Boss is easily heard.

The only down side is, there is no mention of the names of the various levels of BPM ranges (presto, allegro, etc) that I am aware of in the literature that ships with this metronome. To prop it up for use, or to change the battery, just slip a quarter into the slot of the back and you're gtg.

The Boss DB-30 is nice, definitely affordable, and fits neatly into your gig/practice bag. I think it was a good buy!
