From Our Research Team:

Guild's Flagship Dreadnought with D-TAR Pickup System!

Guild has been building dreadnought acoustic guitars since 1963, and their instruments are revered for their value, reliability, tone, responsiveness, outstanding projection and sustain. The Guild® Dreadnought is a full-bodied, high-volume body style that was developed with an emphasis on string-to-string balance, so that treble, mid and bass registers project evenly. The result is one of the most musically versatile dreadnoughts anywhere.

The Wave-Length combines a thin, piezo under-saddle transducer with an 18v, low-noise, high input impedance preamp, to create a system with twice the dynamic range of typical 9v systems. The 18v preamp is powered by two "AA" batteries and a voltage converter. With 18 volts, the signal has more headroom, so hard strumming won't distort as easily. The preamp also has an input for a second source, like a magnetic pickup or a soundboard transducer.

Two adjustable trim pots, one for low frequency shelving and one for high frequency shelving, allow you to fine tune and "set and forget" the bass and treble frequencies to optimize the Wave-Length for your instrument's size and shape; enabling you transparently amplify the natural timbre of your acoustic guitar with minimal coloration. The soundhole mounted Volume and Tone controls give the ultimate in final control your tonal palette.

But perhaps the coolest part of the system is D-TAR's new Load 'N Lock system, which allows quick and easy "AA" battery changes. Just unscrew the endpin "collar," remove the old batteries, and pop in the new ones. A quarter turn of the collar is all you need to lock them in place. D-TAR Wave-Length pickups are standard on all Guild acoustic/electric guitars.

Great production guitar

by Lynn Morgan from Gladwin, Michigan
June 21, 2011
Music Background: Pro Musician and vocalist
I've been playing guitar for almost 50+ years and have owned and played dozens of guitars, among them Taylor, Gibson, Martin, Guild and many other top names including some boutique guitars. I recently... read more [+] purchased my new Guild D-55 from Sweetwater. I really hesitated buying this level of instrument sight unseen but had purchased my recording gear from Sweetwater and felt confident that I would be treated fairly with great service. They did not disappoint.
I would have given this guitar a rating of five but for the following reasons: 1. The spruce top was an inferior book match which was really disappointing. 2.A minor puddling of varnish where the neck meets the body.3.The case is very flimsy with the plush padding material coming loose on the sides, plastic handle and hardware not lining up, come on Fender! I've had better cases with $100.00 guitars. Also, the appointments did not match the advertised photos or descriptions such as the pick-guard, the strap button placement and the D-TAR system had been changed.
Now for the good stuff... Other than the spruce top not matched and the very minor varnish issue the guitar was expertly built. I would have to say the workmanship on this guitar is better than the Taylor's, Martins and Gibson's I have owned and played and maybe even better than some boutique guitars I have played. The beauty of this guitar is stunning, maybe only trumped by it's awesome tone. I'm not even sure what kind of electronics is in this. There is a small mic with volume and tone controls in the sound hole. Sounds absolutely fantastic plugged in or unplugged. Very quite when not being played. The neck on the guitar is very thin and plays very easy with no buzz at all. Good for strumming hard or delicate finger picking all the way up the neck. Harmonics are sweet and the sustain goes on for ever. Best balance of treble to bass of any guitar I've owned. Big, Big bass, wonderful mid-range and ringing trebles.
I've played boutique guitars that are a bit superior to this guitar in some aspects but for the 3K market this is the best sounding and best built guitar I have ever played. And oh, has there ever been a more beautiful headstock created than the Guild, I don't think so.Thank you "Guild" and Fender.
Taylor's, Martin's, Gibsons are great guitars, all great in their own way but this Guild will be my go to concert and recording guitar!
One more thing, Sweetwater has been great to work with in buying this great guitar. For a working musician that's important. Thanks Jeff, Sara, and Marty!

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
