Since its introduction in 1930s, the Martin D-28 has remained the standard by which all large bodied, steel-string acoustic guitars are measured. While the standard D28 utilizes solid spruce and solid East Indian rosewood for the back and sides, the D-28 75th Anniversary Limited Edition sports a premium Adirondack spruce top and Madagascar rosewood back and sides, plus a Madagascar rosewood headplate. Genuine ebony is used for the fingerboard and bridge. With its rich resonant warmth, the D28 is particularly well suited to bluegrass, country, and other musical styles requiring loud, powerful rhythm accompaniment. Birth of an iconic guitar design
In the midst of the Great Depression, Martin managed to create two guitars that have remained incredibly popular to this day; in fact, the D-28 and the D-18 share what has become an iconic design. By introducing the dreadnought body shape into their lineup, Martin brought powerful bass and projection to guitarists - a real plus in an era before electric guitars entered the scene.
