I bought a D-18 in 1955 from the Martin Factory. I was a Junior in H.S. I've had fret work done one time. I still play this Guitar twice a week. I wrote Martin Co. a letter & told them, You Out Did Your selves on this one. After 50 years of playing Guitars, I've again found a better one in my 2005 Martin Custom. A great co. to do business with for a great product. Doug Smith in Newport, TN. close [-]

Just got it and boy is it a sweet sounding guitar! I own a few high-end Collings, and it simply doesn't make sense to compare as they are two different animals.December 30, 2011 Music Background: Hobbyist The d18-V is a real cann... read more [+]on-not quite as much so as pre-war d18's (noone should be surprised as those pre-wars are freaks of nature). But the guitar projects beautifully and it's just a really nice easy play. There were a few small cosmetic botches on the edges--Bill Collings would have done a Pete Townsend if one of his guitars had such imperfections--this gutar would have never made it out of the shop. And the Collings is built like a tank--the quality of construction is clearly superior. But the tone, projection and playability of my d18-v more than compensates for the very small imperfections. And if anyone has ever seen what some of thos pre-war d18's look like(been through some serious playing and perhaps partying), you'll understand why sound trumps looks. Anyway, hope this helps. An unbeleivably great guitar! close [-] Martin D-18V
