Beautiful PRS Tone! The Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 shares the distinction (with the Custom 24) of being among the first guitars crafted by Paul Reed Smith. The success of the Custom 22 gives it an esteemed place in the expanding PRS lineup, and this version is a beautiful, playable instrument that sounds at least as good as it looks. It features a breathtaking quilt maple 10-top paired with a solid Mahogany body, 22-fret mahogany neck with a comfortable wide-thin carve, and a rosewood fretboard with abalone bird inlays. Premium Dragon II pickups with covers give the Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 great tone. Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 at a Glance:
The Custom 22 woods The Custom 22 features a solid mahogany back and a carved quilt maple 10-top, a combination that results in both tremendous tone and a look that's guaranteed to turn heads. Every single piece of wood that goes into a PRS Guitar is painstakingly chosen and carefully handled. An experienced PRS craftsman checks each piece for flaws, strength and stability. What is a 10-Top? A very small percentage of the maple trees cut in North America are actually figured. To make "10-Top" status, a PRS top must have clearly defined figure across its entire top. A guitar designated as a 10-Top will have a small "10" written on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner. Some of PRS's earlier guitars have the "10" stamped into the finish in the same position. Legendary Dragon II pickups! The PRS Dragon II pickups come standard on the Custom 22. These are the same pickups used on the company's $10,000+ Dragon series guitars. Hundreds of hours of tweaking have resulted in a pickup with McCarty-like tones and a little more output to cover more styles, plus vintage-style nickel covers. The Dragon II pickups are built in-house to Paul's exacting specifications. Years of work and research have been spent on the important details such as focusing on the highs so they sing instead of shriek, or contouring the bass tone so it's punchy, not boomy. The PRS Custom 22 comes with volume and tone controls along with a 5-way rotary selector switch that allows you to switch from a screaming lead to a glossy "out-of-phase" rhythm tone with the simple turn of a dial. Gorgeous finish Utilizing the most advanced finishing technology, PRS has developed fat, ultra-high gloss finishes and rich stains that exquisitely highlight the color and grain of the woods while retaining the fast, smooth feel of vintage lacquer. Because color is an important component in any guitar's appearance, PRS dyes are specially blended to look their very best under stage lights, shining with such luster and brilliance that the guitar truly looks every bit as good as it sounds. The Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 is a beautiful guitar that plays as great as it looks!
