This IS IT!!!
by Eric (EAP-Entertaiment Co) from Washington, DC (chocolate city), May 2008

I've always loved Cubase ever since SX/SL 1-3.... I've been using Cubase ever since... I do have protools LE 7.4 and that is ok but it's nothing like Cubase 4.... This is IT!!!! I love love it.. I have yet to have any problems with it and I love the upgrade to 4.1.... The audio/sound engine is very big and fat to me, I mean the sound is very warm just like analog... I have all my plug-ins from Waves SSL, API, Neve and the Diamond bundle to Sony Oxford EQ, Limiter, Dynamics and Inflator.. And these plug-ins sound very SWEET in this software... I say this is the best to get if you cant afford Protools HD and if I could I still would choose Cubase 4 over protools and any other software.... the only reason why I have protools is because it suppose to be the industry standard... Get Cubase along with Reason 4; and thats a banging combination...
A comprehensive DAW that can get the job done

I've been using Cubase 4 for a bit over a month now and I think that it is a very well thought out and comprehensive sequencer. Sequencers/DAWs have had plenty of years to evolve and converge in ideas about functional approach. Cubase, being one of the older ones, is no exception. It has all of the basics features of a professional DAW such as plenty of available tracks to use, good sounding mix tools,(compression, reverb, eq, delay etc...). It's compatible with high sample rates. It has 32bit floating point processing as well as a new control room buss routing feature that allows the user to set up individual mixes for each performer. Overall I'd say that these days a professional needs to be able to have all the necessary tools to track and mix with and Cubase certainly has these. It's limitations lie in it's mastering capabilities and its film and post capabilities but, since it is not primarily designed for these things it is of no consequence really if your goal is to track and mix music for stereo or surround. It is a complete solution in these realms. There is a rather steep learning gradient however, I will say for novices. There is nothing though that can't be mastered within a few days of practice. Cubase is a mature sequencer designed by and for professionals to use on their native system either pc or mac and it does it's job well.

If you use UAW PCI cards with your system this is the program to get. DELAY COMPENSATION! Cubase 4 has it PRO TOOLS LE DOES NOT!!! Ive used Sonar 5, Pro-Tools 7, and now Cubase/Nuendo. This program is sooo slick.... runs very smooth, it's not picky like Pro Tools, ... 32 bit sound is much better, YES! you can hear the difference. I use a Creation Station 3.4 dual core and 2 UAD PCI cards, with Fireface 800. I've use several setups I am very happy with this performance and quality! Move over Pro Tools!

Logic-al

I have had Cubase and Nuendo in the past, but since getting a Mac Pro, I was forced to go to another Sequencer. It was the most il-Logic-al program I have ever dealt with. I have since upgraded to Cubase 4 and I'm really thrilled with it. The routing has been vastly improved, the new plugs sound really great (vintage compressor is pretty awesome) and I think the workflow is the easiest and most user friendly out there. Are the included plugs and VST's as good as UAD, Ivory, EZ Drummer? Well, of course not, but they weren't designed to compete with those products. Everything here is VERY usable...something that couldn't be said for the last version of Cubase. These are in-line with what comes with Logic - but in a much better working environment. Just my two cents. Everything so far has been stable - no crashes, no bugs - solid as a rock.
