Incredibly easy to use for recording Soundcraft has incorporated many specific features to make the COMPACT 10 as easy as can be for recording use. First, it’s simple to route an input straight to the record output simply by selecting the Record button on the channel. Multiple input sources handle any type of mic or instrument Also, The COMPACT 10 offers a wide variety of input sources. These include microphone, line, and a special DI (Direct Input) for guitars and keyboards, plus stereo inputs for keyboards, CD/tape, or turntable (with RIAA equalization). The DI input automatically matches the input impedance of the mixer to the output impedance of the instrument, ensuring professional-quality audio capture. EQ, phantom power, dual headphone outs and other pro-grade features Other standard features on the COMPACT 10 include 3-band EQ on the inputs, along with professional 48-volt phantom power for condenser microphones, dedicated balanced and unbalanced Record and Playback connections, independent engineer & artist headphone outputs, and monitor outputs. The COMPACT 10's dual headphone feeds provide a level of monitoring normally found in large commercial studios. Flexible true stereo monitoring All monitoring on the COMPACT 10 is in true stereo, rather than the mono-summed monitoring found on competitive products. This means that what you hear is always as it will be in your final master.Listening while recording is made easier thanks to a special blend control that allows you to control the mix of the computer playback mix and the signal of the track being recorded which are blended for the Artist headphone output. Using the COMPACT 10 for computer recording means zero-latency monitoring. You can listen to your track being recorded simultaneously with the playback from the computer, without the inherent signal delay of the computer sound card and host processor. ReviewsAwesome Mixer

How pleased am I with this mixer? Let me put it this way... I'm seriously considering buying a second one just in case Soundcraft decides to discontinue it. (they're notorious for doing that)November 9, 2007 Music Background: Audio restoration and post production. <... read more [+]br /> For a mixer this small, and this inexpensive, you gets lots of user options, and lots of connectivity possibilities. In my particular case, having two turntable inputs lets me add turntables to my studio setup; which is a life saver in matters of audio restoration; which I do a lot of. You say you don't need turntable inputs? No problem. The two turntable channels can easily be changed to two stereo line inputs with just the press of a button. And that's only a small part of it. This is an extremely flexible mixer for the price. I'd suggest downloading the user's manual for this product; just to see firsthand how many options this mixer really gives you. As for the sound quality... I have no complaints whatsoever. Whether it be vinyl from my turntable or a mixdown track from my DAW, this thing sounds good. As a sidenote, Soundcraft should consider making a rack-mountable version of the unit. That would be major sweet. I fabricated homemade rackmount brackets for my unit, and it looks great. The bottom line is simple... this is an awesome product for the low price. It may look like a toy, but it's not. It's typical Soundcraft quality; in a nice, small package. close [-] Definitely a good mixer

I do home based music production and I really needed a mixer that could have several STEREO outputs except the main output such that I could route stereo instruments ( like a DJ scratching live or har... read more [+]d synths ) to some STEREO effect box ( like the Kaoss Pad 3 ) before it comes back to the main mix. So, believe it or not, at this price range, this is the only product that does stereo grouping. Next one in price is a Mackie, more than double the price. June 1, 2007 Music Background: Producer and musician It's a great piece of hardware, but a bit fragile. The buttons feel cheap, although this does not affect the sound quality. Somehow, a gain button on one of the mic channels dies as well but got fixed for 10 euro's. Also, the side space is waisted by this design plastic that could as well have been taken away ( i did that actually ) . In any case, it beats any other product around its price range by far. I used to have an Yamaha MG10/2 before, there's no comparison in functionality. It's also surprising that the market still has few stereo dedicated mixers. close [-] inSync Review

I have used both the Compact 10 and it's smaller sibling, the Compact 4, in my own studio. I used it as a mic preamp and as a mixer. I also used it to connect two sets of monitors, two sets of headpho... read more

Austin MossAs a matter of fact, the EQ DOES sound good. Class A preamps. Remind me how much this is again? I got it as a line mixer for my keyboards and modules for a live PA and it had preamps so I had full control over everything. And I thought I was just getting an inexpensive keyboard mixer! Just what i expected

This mixer is really good, just what you expect. The only one thing reaaaally bad, is that it does not have a power switch. And there is some piece of metal in one side, and it says something for grou... read more [+]nd, but it is not explained in the manual. Good EQ, plus it does not have buses, but you can use the stereo rec(2 outputs) and monitor(2outputs) to get out the signal independently, so you can use the 4 pre amps with phantom power to multitrack. close [-]
