From Our Research Team:

Designed for Pro Tools Studios Large & Small!

The new Digidesign Command|8 control surface puts integrated, tactile control of Pro Tools TDM or LE systems running on Windows XP or Mac OS X at your fingertips more affordably than ever before!

Digidesign Command|8 Control Surface at a Glance:
  • Cost effective Pro Tools controller!
  • Convenient USB computer connection
  • MIDI control built in
  • Quality Focusrite onboard monitoring system

USB Control Surface
Through a simple USB connection, the Digidesign Command|8's eight bankable channels of touch-sensitive motorized faders, rotary encoders, and LCD displays enable you to control your Pro Tools system with a fully featured, intelligent control surface. As with other Digidesign control surfaces, Command|8 gives you channel strip mixing functionality along with the ability to view and edit plug-in parameters and to automate sends, pans, track volume, and mutes. Transport controls (Play, Record, etc.) are also included, complete with a footswitch jack for QuickPunch and TrackPunch in, further increasing your independence from mouse-and-keyboard-only interaction with your sessions.

MIDI Control
Digidesign Command|8 also features a 1-IN/2-OUT (16 channels in/32 channels out) MIDI interface for integrating your MIDI-compatible gear into Pro Tools. Its Standalone MIDI controller mode enables you to use Digidesign Command|8 with your favorite third-party MIDI applications and devices — any device or application that accepts MIDI control change messages for level, panning, solo, mute, MIDI Machine Control, and other mappable parameters.

Monitor Section
For keeping an ear or two on your mixes, Digidesign Command|8 includes an onboard monitor system featuring acclaimed Focusrite audio performance and quality. It supports a Main Pro Tools Input, External source (a turntable mixer or CD player, for example) and separate speaker and headphone outputs.

For Use with Pro Tools & Video Applications!
Along with Pro Tools TDM and LE systems, Digidesign Command|8 also supports Avid products natively, including Avid Media Composer. When used with Avid products, Digidesign Command|8’s controls are mapped to the Automation Gain Tool for recording dynamic volume automation as well as Solo, Mute, and Snap Mode on and off. Since it connects via USB, no additional MIDI interface is required. Better yet, when utilized in such a way, Digidesign Command|8's onboard monitor system alleviates the need for an external mixer for speaker control.

Made for YOUR Studio!
Due to its compact size, affordability, and compatibility with both Pro Tools TDM and LE systems, Digidesign Command|8 is equally well-suited for project studios and small editing suites in commercial post or music studios.

THE Pro Tools LE Control Surface
While there are several Pro Tools-compatible compact control surface options from third-party manufacturers, only Digidesign Command|8 is made by Digidesign and Focusrite specifically for Pro Tools. As a result, Digidesign Command|8 provides a great deal more sophisticated control with Pro Tools software, and has been tested and qualified specifically for Pro Tools.

Digidesign Command|8 Features:
  • 8 touch-sensitive, motorized faders, and 8 automatable rotary encoders with LED rings; channels bankable in groups of eight

I had been looking for a (not too expensive) control surface for some time. I did quite a bit of research on the subject and decided that the Command|8 was the right choice for my pocketbook. (I was j... read more [+]ust upgrading to Pro Tools as well, so that influenced my decision.)

I haven't had the opportunity to try out all the features, but I love the feel of the faders. It has been a quantum jump to be able to mix with something other than my mouse.

The controls take some getting used to, but within 2 days I pretty well adjusted to them and could move around, record, and edit faster. I don't know what more could be desired, if it's faster (and still of good quality) it's good. close [-]

Awesome Board!!

I use to be a point and click guy like many of us with home studio set ups. After spending some time in a friends studio that has a C24 controller I decided I was done using the mouse to mix my songs.... read more [+] Enter the Command 8. I am extremely happy with the results I've been getting using this board. Since getting it my sessions have gone a lot faster and smoother. Set up was a piece of cake. I'm running protools 8 at the house and all I had to do was plug in the USB cable and assign the Command 8 on the peripherals screen. I love the fact that I can select mono mode to make sure everything is really "in there" when it comes to the mix. Yeah sure the board is small and only has 8 faders but that's the beauty of it, plus even if I could afford a C24 I wouldn't have any room for it in my small apartment lab. Haha. Don't sleep on this item. It's specifically designed for all those who are walking in protools to begin to finally fly! If you're a 002 rack user (like me) or 003 rack user....get one! PEACE! close [-]
