The Vox Tone, and more!

I own a 1991 AC30TB Anniversary Special Edition amp. Unfortunately, at the time this amp was made, Celestion were not making the Alnico Blue speaker, so this Vox SE shipped with Greenbacks. While it is true that Greenbacks are wonderful sounding, classic speakers in their our right, they sound different from the the Alnico speakers associated with the classic sound of a Vox. It seemed a shame to have a classic Vox without the "right" speakers, so a quick email to my Sweetwater rep got a pair coming my way. Once installed, the difference was immediate and apparent... and right. Clear with the right sort of compression at volume. It is the Vox sound.

The shocking things for me in using these speakers was the volume they generate considering they are "just" 15 watts each, and their versatility with non-Vox amps. As a player with many other higher wattage amps, it was surprising how loud an AC30 can be. I always thought of Alnico Blues as small gig speakers but found the volume to be more than enough for any gig I play. They put out the sound! I also ran a Deluxe Reverb through a pair of Alnico Blues, and it was flatly the best that amp has ever sounded! A Fender, with that smooth sound and classic reverb, was a perfect match for the response of this pair of 12s. So, don't be afraid to pair an Alnico Blue with a Princeton Reverb or similar. You'll love the result.

Clean and gorgeous

I read the reviews on this stating how it doesn't really break up when the volume rolls up. They were Right!! If you are looking for break up on a Fender Deluxe Blackface past 4 or 5, you probably won't get it. I like using a pedal. I love playing clean, and boy do you get it out of this. It is creamy, straty, glassy, Les Paully..... My ES335 with classic 57's and my Am. Standard Strat have absolutley made me go from average to better than with this speaker. Give it a go. I would have paid twice the price.

Alnico Blue makes it happen

Have always had a real love of Vox amps, that's why I have 4 of them. They all sounded good, drop an Alnico Blue in single 12 cab and not only do they sound great, they sound vintage. Don't hesitate, buy it and you'll love it.

This is the Speaker you Want!

If you want that tight British sound, this is the speaker you want. If you are thinking about a new speaker and your looking at this one, just buy it. You'll be happy. This speaker sounded great from the start. It took me about 30 minutes to replace the speaker working at a leisurely pace. My old speaker had connectors so I didn't have to solder. Yea for me! I replaced a Celestion 70th Anniversary speaker with this speaker and even though the 70th-A speaker sounds really good, the Alnico Blue speaker sounds Great! I think the Alnico Blue paired with EL84 tubes has the ultimate British sound that I've been searching for. Yeah I know I'm not suppose to end a sentence with a preposition but I'm a Rock & Roll Rebel and I did it anyway!

Perfection

As a strat player I am finding this speaker to be everything I thought a strat should sound like. Sparkle, shimmer, picking dynamics, a luscious bass......I am finding all of this in this speaker. Rich and soulful. Its expensive but I am already considering a second one as a spare in another 1x12 cabinet.
